CorSport: Milan have two players in mind for midfield tandem – the situation

By Isak Möller -

One of the departments AC Milan want to strengthen ahead of the season opener is the midfield tandem. Franck Kessie’s departure has inevitably left a hole in the squad and it’s yet to be filled.

For many months, Milan have been linked with Renato Sanches and he appeared to be the replacement for Kessie. However, over the last few weeks, the negotiations have slowed down significantly and this has resulted in a peculiar situation.

Paolo Maldini and Ricky Massara have been focused on Charles De Ketelaere as of late but now that an agreement has been reached, they can focus on the midfield. This was reported by Corriere Dello Sport (via MilanNews), stating that Sanches remains the primary target.

Paris Saint-Germain are also interested in the Portuguese international but they are yet to make a serious offer for Lille. Milan will try again, therefore, and it remains to be seen if they can reach an agreement (the price tag is €15-20m).

The alternative, as the newspaper points out, is a very young player: Carney Chukwuemeka. The Aston Villa man has attracted the interest of several big clubs and he has a price tag of €20m, even though his contract expires in 2023.

  1. Why do we insist bringing Renato in? He definitely wants PSG. Look at what a player can do if he wants to play for a specific team (CdK). Therefore, Carney is a good prospect while Rade has already proved he is reliable when needed. Let’s use the money elsewhere

  2. I don’t think PsG are bothered about Renato, they just see him as a stockpiling strategy. He won’t start. Perhaps they’d send Verratti our way if they get him…. 😉

Carney is the one, or wait for Traore from Sassuolo to get fit and get him in January

  3. What Milan need to do is cut Bakayoko and Diaz/Balo-Toure. Lazetic can take Zlatan slot for the 1st half of the season before being loaned at the 2nd half. No more signing so there won’t be any players excluded from UCL squad due to non-homegrown limit.

Milan excluded Castillejo and Pellegri from UCL squad last season due to this issue. Are we expecting Milan to buy more non-homegrown so a lot more players have to be excluded from UCL squad?

  4. I think bakayoke can even do better than kessie, he just needs to rebuild himself with enough encouragement. Trust and confidence in him will help him to get back on his feet.

  5. Buy carney or loan ndombele should be good. No need to wait renato ,he only want go to psg . But first we need to return bakayoko to chelsea for register new DMF to CL
