CorSport: Misfiring Milan aim for big scalp in Paris without alternative options

After two goalless draws to begin their Champions League campaign, AC Milan travel to Paris in need of a positive result against PSG.

As Corriere dello Sport (via MilanNews) writes this morning, Milan and Stefano Pioli dream of a big win at the home of Kylian Mbappe – who is probably the best player in the world today – and his team-mates.

It won’t be easy but the Rossoneri must take to the field with the intention of finding a way to win. Their opponents are considered by many to be the favourite to win the group, especially once they settle more under new head coach.

As Pioli said yesterday in his pre-match press conference: “We have to score more for what we are creating, especially in the Champions League. We have to make the most of the first or second opportunity that comes along, that’s how we have to do it at this level.”

Milan need the perfect game from every point of view but especially finishing, given that in the first two group games they were wasteful.

Milan managed 39 total shots in 180 minutes over the games against Newcastle and Borussia Dortmund but never managed to score, resulting in consecutive 0-0s which could easily have been two victories.

It is a goal-scoring problem that also impacted the team in the league and which Pioli commented on as follows: “I believe that with PSG we will have many fewer opportunities, but maybe with 4 shots on target we will score 5 goals.”

However, there is not an abundance of choice. The starters will be Pulisic-Giroud-Leao in attack but Chukwueze is out until the next national break, Okafor remained in Milan due to a muscle strain and Romero is not on the UEFA squad list.

The only bench option goes by the name of Luka Jovic who, however, in these first outings with the Rossoneri shirt has proven anything but to be a guarantee.
