CorSport: New boss Pioli promised January investment by Milan leadership

By Oliver Fisher -

Stefano Pioli obtained a guarantee from Paolo Maldini and Zvonomir Boban that he will be able to bring in reinforcements in January, a report claims.

Pioli was confirmed as AC Milan’s new head coach on Wednesday morning after Marco Giampaolo was sacked just 111 days into the job.

The 53-year-old was presented in front of the media and created his own slogan for the team to adhere to by stating that they must ‘win whether their heads are up or down’.

Attentions have already turned to the winter window, with recent reports claiming the club are ready to do business.

According to il Corriere della Sport – as cited by Calciomercato.com – the coming months will be used to see if it is necessary to intervene to strengthen the squad further.

The paper adds that Pioli received the guarantee from Boban and Maldini that every effort will be made to improve the squad based on needs, position in the table and what the market has to offer.

If Milan found themselves in a Champions League race come January, more budget would be available, plus the report also references the money saved by hiring Pioli (€2.5m over two years) compared to Spalletti (who wanted €5m-a-year).
