The final decision regarding centre-back Mattia Caldara will ultimately rest with head coach Stefano Pioli, according to a report.
This morning’s edition of il Corriere della Sera (via MilanNews) reports that Caldara – who is currently on loan at Atalanta – will return to San Siro at the end of the season. This summer, the 18-month loan that the two clubs had agreed on in January 2020 will end and they do not intend to use the option to buy set at €15-16m.
Caldara has played just 113 minutes in all competitions this season and that is why the Bergamo club are not interesting in keeping the player in the squad for next season, because his injury problems have meant he has rarely been available. He will return to Milan and join the Rossoneri for preseason preparations initially, then it will be up to Pioli to decide whether to give him a chance or sell him.
