CorSport: Experience and desire to move – Spurs midfielder ticks boxes for Milan

AC Milan are enticed by the idea of making a move for Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg, a report claims, because he ticks a lot of boxes in terms of what they are looking for.

According to this morning’s edition of Corriere dello Sport (via MilanNews), the Milan management have included Hojbjerg in the list of candidates to bolster the midfield, because they are looking for a ‘balancer’ with more defensive characteristics to play in front of the back line.

Hojbjerg will turn 29 in just over a month and he seems to follow the precise identikit because he plays naturally as a deeper-lying midfielder, he has accrued a lot of experience on the European and international level for club and country, and should have an affordable transfer fee.

The Danish midfielder – who is currently with his country in Germany at the European Championship – intends to leave Tottenham this summer despite the fact that he still has a year left on his contract with the London club.

The main motivation, in addition to wanting to try a new experience, concerns above all the desire to want to play the Champions League, a competition that Spurs were not in last season and will not be in next year too.

    1. Or way more. Modric was brought in at 27 and look how many years were squeezed out of him. Giroud was way older when he came to us. But even if we assume he’ll only be relevent for 3 years, that’s good enough, many things would have happened in the meantime and we can adjust.
But with the departure of Giroud and Kjaer, we need older more experienced players.

      1. His fee won’t be higher either. Maybe we should sign him and Trinidade. One more experienced and one younger for midfield.

        1. Outlier or not, Modric is not the first player, not even currently who is performing well past the age 35. With the current advances in training, nutrition and medicine, players are now more capable of playing well near 40 rather than in the past. Injuries and the player’s discipline are also part of the equation.
Now of course there is no guarantee that Hojbjerg can be this player, but IMO he has shown enough to be a decent candidate for us.

  1. And that 3good years will be his best. and we will sell him to saudi and make another capital gain which will be a win win 🏆

    1. Denmark was one of the most outspoken international teams and federations against the world cup being held in qatar so i seriously doubt many or if any of the danish international team players would accept moving to saudi arabia regardless of the cash involved.

  2. Am I the only one who thinks that we should sign two defensive midfielders? We need two of Hojbjerg, Fofana, Amrabat and Weiffers

    1. Two defensive midfielders are needed, one regular and a back-up or sometimes the two can be fielded together.
But if we’re gonna get 2 defensive midfielders (not that I think our management will do it), we need to sell/loan one of our current midfielders.

  3. If there is one Spurs player we sign, Hojbjerg is it. Not Emerson Royal. Yes, he’s 29 but this is higher level experience. I’d like Trindade but he’s younger and not experienced in European football.
