CorSport: Three days and two operations – how Milan plan to close the mercato

By Oliver Fisher -

There are now only three full days remaining before the transfer window shuts and AC Milan could still complete two more operations, a report claims.

According to Corriere dello Sport (via MilanNews), Milan want to follow up the signing of Malick Thiaw yesterday with the arrival of another Bundesliga player in midfielder Aster Vranckx, over whom negotiations with Wolfsburg are ongoing.

Just as happened with Thiaw on Saturday, it cannot be excluded that news of an agreement over Vranckx could be announced before or after today’s match against Sassuolo. The Belgian teenager – who has already played in the Champions League – is valued at €13m, whereas Milan have offered between €11.5-12m via a paid loan with option to buy.

Tiemouè Bakayoko’s future is also linked to this situation as the French midfielder – who is in his second year on loan from Chelsea – is no longer be part of Stefano Pioli’s plans. If Vranckx arrives then his loan could be terminated with Monza keen on signing him.

  1. Not a very favourable deal for Wolfburg unless there’s a hefty initial loan fee involved, so I guess there’ll be quite a large sum there or Wolsburg will hold out for a better deal.

After all, you can’t imagine he’d be getting a lot of starts to bump his value up unless disaster befalls the other 3 or 4 possible starters. He’s not in their current plans, but will Kovac still be the coach by the end of the season? The new one may want him back.

So for it to make sense to Wolfsburg, I’d guess a 11-12m option fee will only make sense if it’s a 3-5m initial loan fee on top.
