CorSport: Tonali on track to write his name in Milan’s history – his target for 2023

Sandro Tonali made his 100th appearance for Milan in the match against Cremonese earlier in the month, and now he hopes to be a driving force in a rejuvenated Scudetto bid.

As Corriere dello Sport (via MilanNews) write this morning Tonali’s dream ever since he was at Brescia was to become a legend for Milan and after a difficult first year with the Rossoneri it feels as though he is on the right track.

Having recently signed a renewal until 2027, his development only certifies all of this. The Italian is already a leader not only for his performances on the pitch but for the attitude he puts on display every time he wears the Rossoneri shirt, which has made him a fan favourite very quickly.

One hundred games for such a prestigious club at a young age is far from insignificant, but the hope is that it is just a starting point in a long and successful career.

Last season, Tonali amassed 5 goals and 3 assists but this time around the departure of Franck Kessie means that he has to pay more attention to the defensive phase, thus playing further away from goal though he did score the winner against Hellas Verona.

The target from January is to increase his contribution with goals and assists (current tally one goal and three assists), perhaps returning to being decisive with his runs from midfield. He scored three times in the final part of last season, and the same might be needed again to try and catch Napoli.
