CorSport: Why Milan pushed Romero to Almeria over Boca Juniors

By Oliver Fisher -

Luka Romero will spend the second half of the season on loan at Almeria after he completed a six-month loan move there, but there were other possible destinations.

On their official website, Almeria confirmed that Romero has become their second signing in January, joining on a loan deal until the end of the current season with no mention of any option to buy.

Today’s Corriere dello Sport (via PianetaMilan) explains the background on the move, starting with why the player was so open to the idea of joining the team that are currently bottom of LaLiga.

Romero, before the two years he spent at Lazio, had established himself as one of the big talents coming through at Real Mallorca. Now the Argentine hopes to get more playing time in a league and country he knows well, after just 156 minutes amassed with Milan.

Meanwhile, the paper states that the Rossoneri pushed the teenager towards Almería rather than Boca Juniors, a destination that seemed preferred by the player given he is a boyhood fan of theirs having been born in Buenos Aires.

Almeria agreed to sign Romero on a dry loan – until June 30th – without any option or obligation to buy. Boca meanwhile wanted the loan to be 18 months and an option to buy included, but Milan believe in him so they said no.
