Costacurta claims Milan ‘must aim to not lose’ against Juventus

While many are labelling the game against Juventus as a must-win for AC Milan, Alessandro Costacurta believes it is more of a must not lose.

Juventus will arrive at San Siro on Saturday night six points ahead of Milan in the standings, but Paulo Fonseca’s side have a game in hand and thus with a win could take a big step towards eradicating the gap.

The Bianconeri are only sixth in the Serie A table but they are two points off top which says a lot about how congested things are. The Rossoneri meanwhile are on the outside looking in due to their inconsistencies, so a definitive turning point is needed.

Costacurta spoke at a function on Sunday and he was asked about the upcoming game between the two biggest clubs in Italy, with his comments relayed by Tribal Football.

“It will be a very important match. If the gaps were to increase, Milan could run into psychological difficulty, because it would not be easy to recover points with many teams ahead,” he said.

“Juve are calmer in this respect, they are improving in Thiago Motta’s project, they are a lively, young, fun team. Milan must aim to not lose.”

On Rafael Leao, he added: “I believe that some games on the bench may have reawakened a bit of pride and attitude. It would seem that Paulo Fonseca has chosen the right path to stimulate Leao again.”

  1. What??? This is a must-win game against a direct competitor for the four UCL spots (and a big rival). I will be very disappointed even with a draw. Only a win will do, given how we are behind in points. Is Costacurta getting contaminated by our managers’ lack of ambition?
