AC Milan legend Alessandro Costacurta believes that the club have made the right decision by hiring Massimiliano Allegri.
Milan were among the busiest clubs over the summer as they completed over 30 transfer operations in total and entrusted the new era to Allegri, who was the choice of the incoming sporting director Igli Tare.

The pitch will tell us if all of the choices will prove to be the right ones, but with Allegri there does seem to be a safe pair of hands in place. He is the active coach that has won the most Scudetti, and he knows the club well having been with the Rossoneri from 2010 to 2014.
The area to fix
Costacurta spoke to Quotidiano Sportivo about how Milan are shaping up as the 2025-26 season prepares to get back underway following the international break. MilanNews relayed his words.
“Allegri is a winner, chosen to start again. I’m not in love with his game, but if there’s anyone you can trust, it’s him: an excellent choice, especially to get into the top four,” he said.
“But the question isn’t so much Leao’s position or whether Nkunku will be the one from Leipzig: rather, will the central defenders improve? With Allegri, it usually happens.
“Milan always score up front, they have strong and unpredictable players, even if they don’t keep it up [consistently]. But for years, their defence has been among the worst. Once this aspect is sorted, they can even fight for the Scudetto.”

Atalanta isn’t what they used to be, Lazio won’t reach TOP4. Inter is worse than last season, same applies to Bologna & Viola. What’s left? Juve & Napoli. Both of them are stronger than before. Roma? Well… Who knows. But there is a chance for the TOP4 for sure.

Actually, it’s both. Our midfield is miles better than last year. Miles! Defense is still a question mark but let’s see how De Winter etc performs. They can’t do worse than Theo & Emerson did though. 😀
The competition has gotten weaker.
Midfield is stronger, though we will miss the goals of Tiji.
Defence and attack just don’t make sense to any system Allegri may choose. Especially if we play 3 in midfield which we surely must given we have 6 midfielders
Who is covering LWB? Estupinan looks very poor so far and is regularly injured.
Allegri will change the formation if the players available aren’t compatible with it.

As long as Pav continues to unplug his brain before every game Milan will not improve defensively. Our CBs are kinda a mess

De Winter – would love to see start but I guess Allegri wants him to study how to best sit on the bench
