GdS: Court verdict, Milan’s offer and the shadow of PSG – latest on Leao’s renewal

By Oliver Fisher -

AC Milan are hoping to be able to announce the renewal of Rafael Leao soon but in the meantime Paris Saint-Germain are lurking threateningly, a report claims.

According to La Gazzetta dello Sport, the player is waiting for the verdict on the case involving his move to Lille on a free transfer after he terminated his own contract with Sporting CP after an incident at the training ground. The Portuguese judges sentenced the winger to pay €20m in damages and an agreement is sought involving Lille, with the Rossoneri ready to do their part.

His agent Jorge Mendes will also have a hand in trying to find a collective agreement on how the fine will be paid and in the meantime PSG are lurking, keeping an eye on the situation knowing that they can offer a big financial package that would certainly make any repayment easier.

Milan are ready to give him a salary of €4.5m net per season for him to extend his deal until 2026 and that would be exactly triple what he earns currently. The problem in the eyes of his family is that the Milan leaders are essentially proposing a contribution to the repayment agreement with a payment spread over the next five years.

The Milan court postponed their verdict on the sentence to May 17, and the worry is that they uphold the €20m verdict and Leao would no longer have an interest in renewing at higher figures, knowing full well that he would have to essentially hand it straight over to Sporting.

PSG’s candidacy had emerged and they value they player at €70m and would be able to guarantee a net salary of €6m to the player, which partly explain the hesitation of Leao’s entourage.

Nonetheless, Milan are calm and they know that coming to terms with Sporting would mean avoiding the market temptations that may come if the process were further delayed. Relations between AC Milan and Lille are excellent too, but the French club have a percentage (15%) on the proceeds from a future resale, so if Milan were to sell now they would have to give up a good slice of capital gain.

  1. And no one will offer any money for him cause they know they can get him for free from milan and they will wait 2 years,if he play in any other team psg would offer instantly 60 mil,but leonardo is out enemy and he show it again.

    1. Agreed. Specially since this summer is two years out from the end of his contract. Basically the renewal needs to be now, and if they offer to triple his salary and he rejects then sell him to the highest bidder and move on. Let’s learn our past lessons.

    2. Even 50M€ would be a great deal and that money gets two wingers who can provide stability and not go missing 4-5 matches in a row.

      1. Kvaratskhelia would probably be free or maybe up to 10M since he signed for a Georgian club after he canceled his Rubin Kazan contract. I would put my money on him to make a bigger career than Leao.

  2. Just wait till summer,if he still refused to extend contract,Paolo Maldini better sell him to PSG 60-70m euro and sign noa Lang or szobolai for replacement . It will give huge capital gain because noa Lang only cost 20m euro and low salary too

  3. So, sell him for 70M. Buy Nunez for 40M and Kvaratskhelia possibly for free ( he suspended his contract with Rubin) and you have some leftover money. He will try more than Leao and he dribbles and scores like crazy. 70M for someone that won’t run every match because he woke up on the wrong foot is a no brainer.

    1. Kvarat are non UE passport. I don’t think AC Milan will sign him. But i agree he is good winger, only doubt can he adapt to italian league fast? Because he is from lower league than serie A
