Tuttosport: Cremonese-Milan has a special meaning for Braida – his history with the Rossoneri

By Oliver Fisher -

It will be a rather strange experience for Ariedo Braida tonight as his Cremonese side face AC Milan, a club that undoubtedly still have a piece of his heart.

As Tuttosport (via PianetaMilan) points out, this will be a special match especially for Braida, who was present at San Siro for the match between Milan and Monza last month which was a reunion involving Silvio Berlusconi and Adriano Galliani.

Tonight’s match will be a match that evokes many memories in the mind of Cremonese’s strategic advisor as he held the role of sporting director for Milan from 1986 to 2013, bringing some huge names to the club.

Thanks to his precious work, Milan signed players of the caliber of Van Basten, Rijkaard, Gullit, Weah, Papin, Shevchenko and Kakà. In particular his story about the signing of Rijkaard is memorable as he had the midfielder’s contract hidden in his underwear to prevent the Sporting CP fans – angry at his sale and having entered the club’s offices – from snatching it out of his hands.

There were some sliding doors moments too. Back in 1988, Braida met the family of a young Francesco Totti in person to bring him to Milan. The family, however, decided to wait for Roma.
