Daily Mail: Milan and Napoli defenders on Liverpool’s six-man list of targets for January

By Oliver Fisher -

Liverpool are in the market for a low-cost reinforcement to bolster their depleted defensive department, and AC Milan’s Mateo Musacchio is on their list.

Musacchio joined Milan in 2017 from Villarreal for €18million and after becoming an important part of the starting XI in his first two seasons, he is now at the bottom of the hierarchy in terms of centre-back options under head coach Stefano Pioli.

The Argentine’s contract expires in June 2021, and his agent Marcelo Lombilla spoke about his client’s situation last month, claiming that he does not understand the treatment he has had in what is a ‘strange’ situation.

According to a report from the Daily Mail (via MilanNews), Liverpool are looking for a central defender and six players are on their wish list, with the common theme that all are on contracts which are due to expire on June 30th and who could therefore be available in a cut-price deal.

Among the profiles that the Reds are evaluating is Musacchio, while the other names are Mandi from Real Betis, Nikola Maksimovic from Napoli, Dragovic from Bayer Leverkusen, Schar from Newcastle and Marcelo from Lyon.
