De Ketelaere’s agent: “He knows he can give more, Milan still believe in him”

The agent of AC Milan midfielder Charles De Ketelaere has admitted that the Belgian knows he can do more to prove himself at the club, but insists Milan are backing him to succeed.

Speaking to Belgian newspapers ahead of the U21 European Championships (via Calciomercato.com), Tom De Mul was very honest about the tough first season that De Ketelaere has had with Milan.

He referenced the fact that the now departed Paolo Maldini was a big fan of him but pointed out that people instrumental in the transfer from Club Brugge were also involved in the deal.

“Milan still believe in him 100%. Maldini was a great supporter of Charles, but his replacement is the chief scout who helped him get his transfer through,” De Mul said.

De Ketelaere did not manage to grab a goal for the club in his first season and in the limited chances he got on the pitch, he did not impress.

De Mul referenced this poor form and explained that De Ketelaere himself knows that he has got more to give to the team next season.

“Charles looks at himself in the mirror. He knows that everyone is judging him a lot because he was Milan’s biggest transfer, but he also realises that he can give even more than that. And he knows, as we all do, that he has all the qualities to succeed. Charles is not the first talent who needs a period of adaptation at a top European club. He will soon be able to experience summer preparation for the first time. Hopefully, Charles will then have a good second season,” he said.

  1. He has everything to overcome the woes of the first season and finally break big. We gotta believe in this guy’s potential.

  2. Agreed.

“Milan still believe in him 100%. Maldini was a great supporter of Charles, but his replacement is the chief scout who helped him get his transfer through,” De Mul said.

CDK – a Moncada special?? LOL. I thought all the Maldini haters said it was all Maldini?? 🤔🤔🤔🤔

    1. No.

But Maldini isn’t blameless, as the final trigger is in him.

It’s the scout(s) job to find talented players for the club, and it’s the sporting director responsibility to choose from the pool of talents that given to him by the scout.

In this case, Maldini is the sporting director, so he is the one responsible. It’s as simple as that.

Moncada give a lot of names with good scouting report to him and he choose CDK, and other players. And we all know how they end.

With different sporting director MAYBE we can get likes of Botman, Enzo, Julian Alvarez, and they maybe or maybe not will succeed like they are right now. Nobody know.

But the fact that we know, Maldini decided to wait for Renato (and fail) so we lost Botman. Maldini decided to put most money at CDK.

The scouts (Moncada n co) did the job, and Maldini also did his job. But the responsibility fall to the person that pull the trigger, not the one that provide the target.

Now the responsibility fall to Moncada and Furlani.

If you throw away your negativity toward the owner (and Moncada?) and your blind love for Maldini, it’s that simple really.

      1. Before all of you throw me as Maldini hater, I’m not.

I also aware that without Maldini we probably won’t get Theo, Maignan, Tomori, Kalulu, etc etc. And I’m grateful for him.

I loved him as a player and director (before last season) but last season, the transfer window is… Bad. And the way Maldini confront club policy, and the owner, in the media, is unacceptable for the club.

And he chose to not amend the relationship with the new owner. If you are club owner, or some people in some kind of higher ups in some company, you will know about it.

If you don’t think I’m rational and only Maldini-hater, then so be it.

        1. i actually made a reply to you AR in a recent comment in a different thread where i actually explained you that it wasnt meant as a jibe at you being a hater but that was ignored but i nevertheless think if people hates maldini they shouldnt consider themselves milan fans as he is a synonym with the club but that doesnt mean he is bigger than the club either,
As kwydlis also said further down in that post and which i also repeated it was that it was a negatively ladden post of yours calling people against maldinis sacking maldini lovers,
I respect what you are saying here but doesnt necessarily agree with everything but there are valdi points nevertheless regardless whether i agreee with them or not.
My negative view of cardinale stands but as ive said numerous times im willing to wait for serptember 1rst to come with my judgement at least in regard of the management but regardless how it pans out i believe maldinis sacking at minimum was handled extremely badly from cardinale.

          1. If only maldini gentle admit he make mistake last season and say he want second chance with same budget 56m euro , i think gery will give him chance due to his past success in recruit maignan ,theo, tonali, tomori, leao . Too bad he choose asking power equal to galliani in transfer market and asking more money more than 56m euro last season budget . Well we must move on , atleast maldini still get his salary 3m euro until 2025 . Time to move on , life still continue for AC Milan

          2. pretty speculative all over and 35 mil was mentioned as his transfer kit as he had to ask for more but regardless that the world keeps turning i reserve my right to have my view on cardinales handling of his sacking and whether people likes that or not isnt really of my concern but im not saying maldini is above criticismn either as nobody is,

          3. Do you really think 35m euro ??? While last season maldini use 50m euro + 6m euro from sale player. Dont just eat fake news. Last season budget based from 4th finish in group stage CL & scudetto . This season budget based on semifinal CL & 4th serie A . Tell me how that budget can go down with logically , not based on hated to RedBird. Finish 4th in group stage got 56m euro budget, while semifinal CL got 35m euro budget,it is nonsense. Im annoying read comment budget 35m euro just because maldini sacking. This is 1st summer transfer market for RedBird , im sure they dont wanna get embarassed infront fans.Last season ppl here in sempre milan mocking club saying budget only 20-30m euro given to maldini but infact after end of market maldini use 56m euro total buy CDK 35m euro & thiaw 5m euro all cash , activate buy option for junior messias & florenzi total almost 10m euro for both, pay fee agent for origi ( free transfer) , pay loan fee for brahim, dest, aster, bakayoko

          4. reccaman the 35 mil was what was also offered last season but maldini negotiated a better ammount and now they are offering that up again according to a recentt article whether that is true is obviously up in the air as nobody knows what they have agreed upon. Im always questioning football news and has made that clear many times over the years by the way.
If we indeed has a higher transfer kit available like you are suggesting i would actually question the fact the he is now sacked and why they initially even renewed because if he is sacked because of higher transfer kit made available why did they sack him then was it because of his open mouthed plea in the interview to the ownership or is it simply because they already wanted to replace him last summer but it were a bad start to a redbird project to sack maldini.
Either way i hope for the best but has my fears but im willing to wait and see how it pans out before i come with my judgement which ive reiterated seveal times by now,
Either way ive never said maldini is above any criticismn but i do believe he should have gotten another year at the club but lets hope it works out well,

          5. Every new owner want to start their 1st summer market with good impression to fans . Yong hong li splash 200m euro , elliot buy maignan, leao, theo, bennacer, rebic ( exchange with andre silva).Lets see what RedBird do this season market. Trust me the budget will not lower than last season , worst case budget still same amount like last season 50m euro + sale player. AC Milan are the best club in italy in term of healthy finance for now, thanks to gazidiz effort so i believe they can do better in summer market this season. @ martin bernhard im glad you still have polite manner & sense unlike the other martin here that delusional want middle east kingdom take over AC Milan to satisfied his lust for expensive player

          6. Even though i prefer european owners in european footbalI i never wanted investicorp to begin with either and saw redbird as the lesser evil of the two but my view is pretty clear middle eastern and russian and american investors and epl is pretty much ruining the sport in my book as the market has been monopoloized by small clubs with a lot of money,
Some might consider that statement a racist view but its not like france/louvre should also sell mona lisa to highest bidder either. European clubs might have global reach as brands but they are nevertheless an integral part of european culture,
I can be a bit crass sometimes but rarely is there any malice behind my posts unless people really steps on my toes so no worries.
Anyways hope you are right and that we will at least see a better transfer kit for next season and that we are successful in the moves we make.

      2. IF Maldini do a bad job like he did last season, but he had a good relationship with Cardinale, good public speaker, and can respect the new owner (basically like Pioli), then remembering his past success at the market, I doubt he will be sacked like that.

I actually thought that it’s more Pioli fault than Maldini for Milans bad result (in league) last season.
        – the tactic
        – the stupid rotation against lower teams
        – the reluctance to use more of Vrancx, and generally other young guns
It’s all the coach, not sporting director.

But the difference is, Pioli is good at relationship, and Maldini isn’t so. And the end result is as we saw.

      3. “But the fact that we know, Maldini decided to wait for Renato (and fail) so we lost Botman”

It was Gazidis decision to not sanction Botman transfer.. Renato’s saga has nothing to do with Botman! We lost Enzo, while waiting for him..

        1. Enzo signed Benfica deal mid-June (even though the move was scheduled for a month later as Enzo want to play at Copa Libertadores), around 2 weeks before Maldini got renewal and the transfer budget.

          1. This brings to light the complications Maldini was dealing with last year. The change in ownership and the drama over the past 3 years or so had to cause turmoil in getting the final sanction to sign players and renew deals.

  3. CDK need another year before considering pulling the plug on him. I hope Pioli starts him more often. But CDK needs to step up too.

  4. I’m tired of hearing the excuse that he never had a proper pre season with the team. It’s not like he came in January. He had a FULL season.

It was a season to forget but it’s not all lost. This kid needs motivation and strength more than anything else. You can see the passing and dribbling qualities is there. His movement off the ball and his strength is horrid. People like Diaz out muscle him off the ball no problem and the kid is 6′ 3″!

  5. “but his replacement is the chief scout who helped him get his transfer through” lol 😂
You trust your scout to recommend you players. You get fired for making such a terrible choice and then get replaced by the very person that recommended the person that cost you your job in the first place😭😭😭 💀💀💀

    1. bro, spot on! bloody setup! calling the dog a bad name just to hang it. it was a lame excuse to say maldini dumped all our transfer funds on one player! they should have sacked the idiot that strongly recommended him. I thought someone said maldini does not play well with the team? why then did he listen to moncada and lose his job for doing so? should the head scout not be asked what happened to those glorious, massive stats he showed maldini? what happened to then numbers?
I just pray that the replacement they sign has half the zeal of Tonalli and co.
Maldini said it years ago, there are no flags and club icons anymore… those who play for the shirt are quickly reminded, it’s money over loyalty.

  6. @Wiaq

Where are you? I remember around 2 weeks ago you bullied and ridiculed me for revealing that CdK is recommended by Moncada. You owe me an apology.
