Di Marzio: Man Utd and Atletico push Fofana price to €35m – Milan evaluate alternatives

By Oliver Fisher -

AC Milan have been told that the asking price for Youssouf Fofana has now nearly doubled because of the competition that has entered the scene, and now they are having to look into alternatives.

According to the latest from Di Marzio, the name at the top of the list to reinforce the midfield if Fofana, but Manchester United and Atletico Madrid have entered the race and this has complicated things.

The Monegasques are now asking for €35m to sell, which is obviously a huge rise in the demands for a player who has 11 months left on his contract. This has forced the management to evaluate other options.

Among these are Adrien Rabiot, who would be available on a free after his contract with Juventus expired, and Richard Rios. The latter currently plays for Palmeiras in Brazil and shone with Colombo at the Copa America earlier this month.

What is interesting is that on July 18 Di Marzio reported that Milan had made a bid worth €12m plus bonuses for the 25-year-old France international which was not deemed sufficient.

However, he added that Monaco were still only looking for around €18m to sell. That would mean Fofana’s price has doubled because of the competition that has arisen.

  1. Who is shocked if we miss out on yet another main target because the cheap as management have been fussing over a few million for weeks?

Soon we see Inter landing Kiwior for 25 mil, someone scooping Fullkrug up for 15-20, and maybe if we are lucky, we end up trading Pobega + 10 mil for Samardzic, and thats it this window.

    1. That’s it? Where’s your crystal ball? Lmao you have no idea what’s going on. And what an ignorant assessment. And who wants Kiwior lol? Pavlovic is who we need.

      1. i think you are missing his point. We are very slow trying to haggle a price, low ball everyone, take too long and our primary targets get often scoped by someone else. Not every time, we did get Mike, Theo, RLC and Puli relatively quick. But there is no denying we are slow AND it may impact our competitiveness. It’s not a coincidence those who arrived early for the most part have done better. i.e. Puli better than Chuck, RLC and Reijders better than Musah, and even far back to CDK who came in so late, + Pioli taking his sweet time, could never fit in.

        1. Mike, Theo did not join by low ball and waiting. But the past Milan management convinced the other clubs and players.

RLC, Pulisic were very bad and out of place in their starting 11 and Chelsea wants to get rid of these players as they spend 400m 6months before.

Low ball never worked rather its better to see which players are available for the money the current management wants to spend.

    2. This a stupid Milan management we have at present to haggle for Fofana is just a laugh and a half in world football.
Cardinale should just sack these useless morons.
If Fofana doesn’t come to Milan then Moncada and Furlani should go!

  2. So Man U saw that Monaco were close to dealing at approx 20m, and made an opening bid of 35m?

    Ok 🤣

    Let’s see.

  3. I am totally in support of Milan management, though it’s hurts not having your desirable targets,Milan cannot be cowed, paying huge transfer fees is not sustainable for a club like Milan at this time.
That is business I urge the management to move to other targets we are Milan

    1. How is Monaco scum for trying to get a fair price for a France international.
Milan are the ones giving a very low ball offer and trying to leverage his contract situation and chance to play with key national team members.

          1. There is a thing called business ethics. It’s one thing trying to negotiate a fair price, but another entering into negotiations at a certain price point and then suddenly doubling the asking price just because there is a whiff of interest from elsewhere. The player already chose Milan. Ths value is obviously not genuine given the contract expiry. It’s just poor ethics.

        1. They didn’t double the price, the asking price of Monaco was 25m, we tried our luck to push it down further even tho Fofana on a new contract will be worth 50m+ but we tried to cut the price even Monaco held out for 25m while waiting they got new suitors who offer more. Naturally its our inaction which lead us to lose this player we could have gotten for half the price.

  4. Di Marzio is so desperate for clicks. He changes his story every day on milan targets. Someone should tell him Milan have also ended negotiations with Emerson Royal almost two weeks ago but he shoots that we are at the final stages.

    Terrible source.

  5. DiMarzio is a dense biscuit. I wouldn’t believe anything coming out of him unless Romano confirms. Someone is either feeding him BS or he’s trying to drum up speculation for whatever reason.

  6. Even if DiMarzio is lying, can these rookies just close the bloody deal already. We were hard on Maldini for waiting on CDK, but we are giving these fools all the excuses and acting like they are playing chess. Bunch of amateurs if you tell me. All zlatan can say is he convinced Morata. Acting like it is bloody Halaand he convinced. If they wanted to offer 40 mil for zirkzee, just pay the bloody 18mil for fofana fools

  8. Sky UK saying 40 mill plus for the french man is a done deal man utd will anounce it within the next week or so.

Very funny seeing man utd tweets saying man utd own Ac milan I’m old enough to remember a time when it was the other way around.

This short of news shouldn’t be a suprise to anyone as sky UK continue to remind people Italian football just can’t get near epl when it comes to finance and is not considered by many around the world as a attractive prospect and in all honesty has been that way for over a decade.

    1. Hmmm score is 5-4 Italy. (UCL spots)

Don’t really see English coaches in much demand outside the UK. Italians though …

I think the cool kids call that sort of BS “premface?”

    2. We were close to a 20m deal. Then they “swoop” for 40m.

ManU has a pretty good midfield. Esp with Mainoo showing serious class in the Euros.

If this is true I cannot wait to give my ManU loving buddies some serious stick.

  9. If this is true then this is probably the first time I’m actually really bummer by how this has been handled by the manegement. They should have just come forth at 20 and called it a day. Who cares if he only has a one year contract if he can muster interest from a lot of top teams. If they had him on the hook they should’ve just reeled him in since we all know how much we need a good DM…

  10. This has been already debunked. Totally fabricated. Fake news for clicks. Funny how the naive people here believe in this crap and immediately start bashing our management.

    1. Start bashing? They are awful and have been awful for ages. An actual Milan fan needs to buy Milan with money to spend on the club, not a plan for maximising profit. That’s what Berlusconi did.

  11. Even though the accuracy of this news is questionable, but this is the potential case we got if we keep dwelling to conclude the deal.

  12. If truly Manchester United is coming for fofana, I want to believe that it is the hand work of Joshua Zirkzee agent, and it’s because Milan did not pay his stupid commission fee on the player, I want to believe he prompted the fofana move for man U, . But fofana will be Milan player very soon

  13. Sounds like Milan worked out a deal and the Russian owner threw a fit because he didn’t like it. Would have happened earlier if the deal was worked out earlier too. Give the Monaco infighting a day or 2 to die down and then get back to business.
