Di Marzio makes encouraging comments on Milan’s links with Modric and Rakitic

By Oliver Fisher -

Journalist Gianluca Di Marzio believes that Ivan Rakitic and Luka Modric represent the right kind of players that AC Milan should be targeting.

We reported in an exclusive last month that the Rossoneri are set to undergo a mini-overhaul in the January transfer window, with directors Zvonomir Boban and Paolo Maldini demanding that more experienced players be brought in to help a young squad which has struggled so far this season.

It was recently claimed by SportMediaset’s Claudio Raimondi (via MilanNews.it) that Milan are trying to sign Barcelona’s Ivan Rakitic, with the midfielder having struggled for playing time in recent weeks.

Meanwhile, Modric has also been heavily linked, with Calciomercato.com reporting last month that he held talks over a summer move to Milan, who are the player’s first choice destination if he were to leave Real Madrid.

Now, Di Marzio has spoken to Sky Italia about the two midfielders and whether they are the right fit for the club, before making an interesting comment on Modric.

“Milan needs experienced players. Profiles from Rakitic and Modric would be welcome, I don’t know if in January or June,” he said, via MilanNews.it.

“Milan needs of players of international experience to grow. For Modric, in the summer the direct line to Boban could have been decisive but it was not.

“If I have to imagine an Italian team where I can see him playing it’s Milan, regardless of Boban.”
