Di Marzio: Milan see bid for Porto striker rejected – influence of Mendes will be key

By Oliver Fisher -

Porto are standing firm on the price they want for Mehdi Taremi and AC Milan have already seen a bid turned down, according to a report.

According to Di Marzio, Taremi is one of the names at the top of the list for Milan as they look for a centre-forward to help Olivier Giroud out. The Iran international had 31 goals and 14 assists last season across all competitions.

Milan have already made an offer which was not deemed sufficient. Porto are starting from an initial request of €30m and it is not certain that they will accept €25m including bonuses, so €25m plus bonuses could be needed.

Meanwhile, Inter are also evaluating the 30-year-old as an alternative to Romelu Lukaku. Agent Jorge Mendes is looking after the interests of Taremi and he could be a key player, having spoken with Milan in the Rafael Leao renewal talks.

A decision on the forward’s future will therefore be the result of a joint reflection between the player and his entourage, in which Mendes’ experience weighs.

  1. Jorge Mendes doing Jorge Mendes things, exploiting clubs in order for him to get a massive cut of the deal. These agents make me sick, as if Mino Raiola wasn’t enough already.

  2. Take 12 million or f off. Otherwise, 31 year old in the Portuguese league is a hard pass for me, don’t care how many he scored. The league is Serie B level outside of Sporting, Porto and Benfica, the vastly outmsmuscle opposing clubs. Our league is more balanced and the defense is is twice as what we see over there.

  3. I think most Milan fans only look at the stats.
This guy is extremely irresponsible on the pitch, and he has terrible attitude.
I mean he’s the sort of player who would get sent off for slapping an opponent 5 minutes into a decisive game.
Terrible deal if it goes through.

  4. I’m not a fan of this deal at all, specially considering the price tag, and non-EU
He has scored a bunch, but not worth the current condition

I’m gonna throw a super unpopular idea here!
Why not have the main target to be Chukwueze this summer (financial reasons I guess?) … and focus on a striker next summer?

Basically aim for top 4 / advance from CL group stage / and maybeCoppa this season?
basically try to build the team and integrate young new players gradually

Giroud is almost 37 now, maybe has 1 season left?
someone else who could share that with Giroud for a season is Aubameyang (this is the unpopular opinion!!) who Chelsea I think should be more than eager to let go (or loan out)
If we can get rid of Rebic or Origi (I pray both!) I’d say try to get him for a season-long loan, make Chelsea pay half the wages!!
could he be worse than those two?! … it’s a very low bar

  5. I am from Iran, and this man is low quality.
AC Milan is stupid even to consider, haha.

Porto is know to always rip off!

Do you think Porto would buy this man, if in AC Milan’s shoes?

    There’s your answer.
