After the defeat against Sassuolo, the atmosphere between the AC Milan players and fans was tense. Ultimately, they all knew what the defeat meant.
It was yet another defeat for Milan on Saturday, with that unbeaten run looking more and more like a fluke and luck. In football, you make your own luck, admittedly, but they couldn’t buy luck if they tried currently.
Silly mistakes like the ones from Fikayo Tomori do not help. Yet, he was not the only poor performer in another dismal result.
Indeed, the latest dropping of points means that the Champions League race can still be that, at least where the Rossoneri are concerned. What could’ve been wrapped up a few weeks ago now is looking like a potential road to disaster.

Di Stefano comments on Milan atmosphere
Speaking after the game, where Mike Maignan removed his teammates from the pitch to perhaps shield them, Peppe Di Stefano commented on the atmosphere at the MAPEI Stadium when speaking to Sky Sport, via MilanNews.
“It won’t be a quiet evening: Milan have picked up seven points in their last few games, scoring in only two and losing four. These are the numbers of those who are playing to avoid relegation.
“They’re a team that’s fading away, and it’s not me who’s saying it, but the numbers, the attitude during matches, the players’ verve. The dilemma is always the same: to what extent did the Rossoneri overperform in the first half of the season, and when are they falling short of expectations now?
“One thing I think is certain: Milan have their Champions League destiny in their hands, but if they get there, they’ll have to work hard on their squad. The atmosphere was a bit tense even at the end of the match.
“There were a lot of boos from the Milan fans post-match, and Maignan responded by practically withdrawing the team into the dressing room.”

They’ve been found out. The second time through the fixture list these teams know exactly how to approach Milan.
And there is clearly some malaise. After the derby win there seemed like some momentum and good spirit but that went away immediately.
Seems like the team both assumed the scudetto was gone and also assumed that top 4 was safe so they sort of shut it down. One was true, one wasn’t.
Hard to turn it back on once it’s off. This is a problem.
Hope Fiorentina gets a result today. Seems like best hope of top 4 is Milan limping in because the others can’t take advantage versus actually winning their way in.
I would say in the first half of the season most of the breaks went ACM’s way. You had Mike making at least three or four game saving saves. You had a goal here and there. You had other teams missing sitters. Well, the football was still crap. When I was saying ACM looked like crap, the reply was we are winning (no we were tying teams we should have beaten) and we’re in the race for the scudetto . Mr Vabbe is right, other teams have figured out how to defend ACM’s non-existent offensive set-up. I believe that Allegri has lost the team. How can any offensive player believe in him? They take the brunt of the complaints. But he has taken two 15 goals plus assists a year players and make them disappear. Yes, Allegri is a defensive genius.

Jim , 100 % correct !! Well said….
Every recent Allegri’s team tanked in the 2nd half of the season. It is and it was the individual brilliance which gets him many points som the first half, and for some reasons, these individuals are not performing now. Sack Allegri, but I hope he doesn’t become National team coach, which would be painful for all the fans. Get De Zebri or Fabregas and give them 4-5 years, whatever happens.
