Tuttosport: Dimvula provides reassuring words – the current status of Leao renewal talks

By Oliver Fisher -

The words of lawyer Ted Dimvula helped to clear some of the anxious air that was surrounding the renewal of Rafael Leao.

This morning’s edition of Tuttosport (via MilanNews) recall the firm and decisive statements that Dimvula – Leao’s agent/lawyer – made during an interview with Sky. The Frenchman reaffirmed Leao’s firm will to continue his career with Milan and to do so without the intention of leaving the Rossoneri at the first opportunity.

He also made it clear that the player and his entourage are not putting on any pressure to significantly lower the release clause to have more freedom in the future regarding an exit. The negotiation between the Rossoneri management and Leao’s representatives is proceeding and must consider all factors, clause included.

Despite the comments from Dimvula, the release clause is an issue that will be talked about over the coming weeks and possibly months, just as a resolution must be found in the situation with Sporting CP given the €9.5m fine the former Lille star must pay.

Milan raised their offer early in the new year and while logically the club cannot take on the payment of the fine to Sporting CP, they have instead tried to make the maximum effort economically to be able to reassure the player and still give him a little more breathing space in this respect.

The offer from Maldini and Massara has a fixed base of €6.5m net per season which – thanks to some realistically achievable bonuses – could bring his earnings up to €7.7m per year. It is an economic effort by Milan that they feel is a fitting reward, after the growth Leao has shown.

The road is still not a straight and clear path though, also because the parties have to talk about the commissions of the agents who will play their role, but the good news is that the will is there to keep going together.
