The draw took place in Monaco last week and it certainly provided a real challenge for Milan in what has already been christened the ‘Group of Death’ by many given the strength of all four teams involved.
The Rossoneri were put in Group F alongside Ligue 1 winner Paris Saint-Germain, Bundesliga runners-up Borussia Dortmund and Premier League side Newcastle United. There are certainly plenty of interesting narratives from each game, too.
Mats Hummels shared his thoughts on the draw on social media, before Emre Can – who is the captain of Dortmund – added his comments too.
“What a group – here we go,” Hummels wrote on X.
“We certainly got into the strongest of all the groups. Every team has the quality to move into the knockout phase,” Can told RD1 Sport (via the Newcastle Chronicle).
Dortmund chairman Hans-Joachim Watzke also believes that the group couldn’t have been much tougher.
“Our group is certainly the most difficult group, a fantastic group. But we’ll accept it. We’ll face three absolute top opponents. To survive in this group, you need exceptional performance, and exactly this is what we hope for from our team.”
Finally, Dortmund head coach Edin Terzic added: “This group is a real challenge. A challenge that we are looking forward to and that we are tackling with full conviction. Three strong opponents await us in Paris St. Germain, AC Milan and Newcastle United.
“That changes, but it doesn’t mean that we go into the Champions League without great ambitions and want to get into the knockout phase.”
Any team survive this group certainly become strong candidate to win the ECL. 6 big matches, next 6 matches at KO will taste almost the same ar group stage.
