Denzel Dumfries has apologised for hoisting up a banner during Inter’s title parade that showed him holding Theo Hernandez as a dog on a lead.
Dumfries who has had quite a few run-ins with Theo Hernandez in recent derbies including the one last week in which both players got sent off.
The Dutch wing-back displayed a banner on the bus which showed him holding a dog on a leash, with the face of the French full-back Theo as the dog.
Now, Dumfries has published a statement on Instagram expressing regret for the decision to display the banner that was handed to him, while the FIGC will investigate the incident.
“Yesterday was the most beautiful day for me, all the players, and everyone at the club. Thank you so much to the fans who turned out in their thousands at the parade. It was a great feeling to celebrate with all of you, it meant so much to the team,” he said.
“During the parade, i held up a banner that displayed an inappropriate image. I am a player who loves rivalry in football, it is a crucial part of any game. I realise that holding up the banner was an error of judgement on my part and not smart at all.
“Let’s move on to focusing on what has been the most amazing season for Inter Milan. Thank you once again for all your support this season, and for the celebrations yesterday, I will never forget them.”

He didn’t apologize, he just made excuses. He is afraid of being punished.
That banner is awful and full of stereotypes. He did not even apologized and tried to brush it under the rug and move on. This is worse than fan chants or screaming rubbish at players this is player on player bigotry. If this was La Liga he would be fine but we will see where Serie A stands on zero tolerance.

This is a lesson to our players know that inter milan didn’t took us as rivals but enemies, that is just the consequences of sitting down and lost 6 derbies in a row.
