AC Milan are finally close to separating from Divock Origi after years of pain regarding his contract, a report claims.
As La Gazzetta dello Sport write, Origi has long since disappeared from Milan’s plans, but with the distinction of having managed to keep the contract he signed in 2022. It was not a cheap deal either: a four-year contract worth €4m net per season, or €5.2m gross with the Growth Decree.

His last official appearance was the four minutes he got against Juventus in the league on May 2023. Then, after a year on loan at Nottingham Forest, the centre-forward – with a Champions League win to his name – transformed into a mystery.
Origi ordeal finally over?
Now, it seems the time for separation is finally approaching. The Belgian had been spotted at the club’s headquarters back in June, specifically to discuss the termination of his contract. The club and the player had failed to reach an agreement, though.
The subsequent appointment indicated January 2026 as the possible month to definitively close the affair, but now there has apparently been an acceleration that could put a merciful end to the whole matter.
From what has been leaked, only a few legal details are missing to be able to end the deal before its natural expiry in June 2026. In short, the final mile has been reached, although it’s difficult to quantify the potential savings for the club because there may be severance involved.
Milan want to move forward and trying not to think too much about all the millions thrown away on a disastrous and disastrous deal. Origi, right now, earns more than Modric (€3.5m net) and Rabiot (also €3.5m, net of generous bonuses).

Maldini was really good with Mascara at finding talented young defenders and goalkeepers. but beyond that they were terrible.

Mind you, everyone with a fair point knew that Maldini talked beyond his remit in that paramount interview pre-semi-final of the UCL.
A reasonable person who saw the landscape of Italian football and football in general knew that what he was asking for was not likely or feasible. So of course it sounded nice to hear him say what the fans would want but the reality was that it was not possible and the finances did not catch up to the sudden success at the club.
But after Maldini left, the management built a formidable team, in spite of the advantage of having Maldini. We all know this team was at least top 4 quality last year and this time around looks better.
It is fair to say that there is a part of the fan base who are lunatics for making it seem like this team is horrible and the owners are the worst thing to happen to the club. I disagree; we have a really good team and the stadium project is moving in the right direction.
after maldini left, we changed coach in mid season. We bought morata, emerson royal and tried to sell them 6 months later. We brought in bondo, sottil for no apparent reason. And in mid season we bought in gimenez who management tried to get rid of 6 months later (again). Ah, and the Futuro is relegated. Liberali left. Camarda out of current plan. The amount of mishaps of furlani and co did are far more damaging over short period of time compared to maldini’s.

Yes his wages have been very high and offer a bad comparison point to the rest of the squad. He did however arrive on a free transfer. So there was no upfront cost. So the true cost has been 4 x €5.2m minus the wages that N Forrest covered for that one year.
Whilst clearly embarrassing paying this large wage for someone who doesn’t even train. The true cost is not as crazy as what some clubs spend on failed transfer targets.
Nobody could have expected the guy to just give up and not even bother trying to continue his career at another club.
Why is Origi’s flop only down to Maldini?
I get it, somebody needst to be crucified, but what about actually integrating players that the club has? Why did we get them in the first place?
That’s like having an employee and not allowing him/her to work and then criticizing them that they are underperforming.
How many players has Milan burned? And it’s never anyone’s responbilitiy apart the player’s responsibility?
Let’s remember Shevchenko’s move to Chelsea – flop.
Kaka’s move to RM – flop. Eden Hazard – flop. Gareth Bale – eventually a flop.
Sometimes certain combos of clubs and player doesn’t work out.
Problem is Origi was quickly scuttled and kicked out. Gimenez almost faced the same situation.
Let’s remember they are people as well and that talking to them and motivating them is a better path then just torpedoing them.
