AC Milan fell out of the Champions League top eight with the loss in Croatia last night, and there are several things that are affected by this, most importantly the financial side of things.
With a win last night, Milan would have a guaranteed spot in the Round of 16, with some even suggesting that there is a ‘destiny’ awaiting them. However, it was not to be. In fact, the only destiny was one heading towards errors.

As Milan News states, the Rossoneri ‘threw away’ a place in the last 16, and now must do things the hard way. This comes with multiple financial issues too.
As a result of the loss, Milan dropped to 13th, which lessened the intake by €2 million – instead of the €8.6m projected, the Diavolo only earned €6.6m. Which is already a huge difference, but it does not end there.
Direct access to the round of 16 guaranteed €11m, with a €2m bonus available for finishing in the top eight. Again, this prize money has disappeared. Instead, for a 13th-placed finish, the side were granted €1m in bonuses.
For a win, another €2.1m would have been collected, and even a draw would have added €0.7m to the prize purse. Instead, they got nothing.
The management were ‘disappointed’ after the game, given they could have earned €25m with a positive result, instead, they earned a third of that. A horrible night for everyone.
So money is short and management is panicking. So predictable.

The 2M bonus for qualifying top 8 is to offset the lack of gate receipts and income because of not having the home playoff game.
The difference is 13M, if we get knocked out. If we progress to the next round (far from guaranteed) then the difference ends up being 3M. Probably the salary of those two new board members that were added.

We will also earn €1M for the Playoff appearances. Because Milan ended on 5 wins instead of 6, they lose that €2.1M.
So the total economic loss if Milan reach R16 is €3.1M only.
The problem is that we have to play 2 extra matches which for Feb is going to exhaust them.
And even if they get past Feyenoord/Juventus, it’s either Arsenal or Inter waiting in R16, which is not ideal.
It also means that the Bologna Make-up match we have will have to be pushed back further to April or May.

i cant believe how many people read this sh. and really think we lost 16 mio. we have two extra games to play that will bring prize money and revenues to almost make up for it. in the end we are talking maybe a few millions.

then: if you look at the paths, with a win we’d be seeded where Leverkusen is now, and they will face one of Bayern, Real, City, that would be the end of the campaign for us.
Well what did they expect? They refused to buy a proper striker and brought in two that are past their best and should be squad players, bought a rb that was already shit at his previous club, did not invest in a natural cdm when we needed two (Milan still doesn’t have a cdm), bought a cb that did not strengthen the defence when we needed an experienced cb with kjaer leaving. Brought in a coach that was worse than Pioli when we clearly needed and had the options for better. Milan doesn’t deserve to finish in a European spot this season and I hope we don’t so drastic changes can be made. Fire the whole management, get in a proper sporting director and take the microphone away from Gerry unless it’s to tell us he opening his wallet for better players I don’t want to hear another word from the guy
