El Debate: Milan defender’s agent offers player to Real Madrid

By Euan Burns -

The agent of AC Milan defender Malick Thiaw has offered his client to Real Madrid as part of a potential €30m deal, a report claims.

As has been reported in Spain by El Debate, the injury to Eder Miltao has put Real Madrid into the frame for a new central defender.

Multiple players have been linked, and one of them is Thiaw. The German only arrived at Milan last summer and did not have an impact until around halfway through the season.

He then became very important for Stefano Pioli and he could be the first choice alongside Fikayo Tomori when Milan get their season underway next Monday.

It was recently reported that Milan view Thiaw as untouchable and it would take around €30m for them to even sit down at the negotiating table.

It remains to be seen whether Real Madrid have got any serious interest in Thiaw, or if it is merely an agent shopping their player around.

    1. It’s just management shopping their player to then ask Milan to increase the salary of the player. He has potential but hasn’t proved himself. He needs to be a starter for a full season before we can think of doing any contract renewal.

    1. Yep it’s a hot topic among agents – “Psst, out of all the big clubs in Europe, Milan – they’re the ones who like money the most!”

  1. If I was Thiaw I would be pissed at my agent for doing this right now, so early in his Milan career, risking his standing with management.

Agents should not be allowed to offer their players around until 1.5 years ahead of contract expiration.
    .

    1. Isn’t any discussion without the permission of the current club regardless of contract remaining considered “tapping up” the player? UEFA/FIFA need to do something about this persistent problem. Agents are nothing but a blight on the sport. They do nothing but phone and text around every two years looking for their player to move so they can get a cut.

    2. Call me naive, but I would think that until Thiaw publicly deny that he is interested in moving to Madrid, I believe his agent.

Pioli is not a coach that elicits Awe, admiration and respect from his players. The players know that he is mediocre and that they wouldn’t win as much under his as they could with another coach.

  2. “The German only arrived at Milan last summer and did not have an impact until around halfway through the season.”

Well, until Prof Pioli was FORCED to use him.

“It was recently reported that Milan view Thiaw as untouchable and it would take around €30m for them to even sit down at the negotiating table.”

30mil untouchable?! Lol. That’s very very touchable in today’s market.

That said, considering Thiaw’s potential he’s shown, it would be unwise for Milan to look to sell him now when they can get an exponential figure in 1 or 2 years.

And if I were Thiaw, why would I be looking to move just when my career is about to take flight?

  3. Damn… If this story is true & legit, and it’s the agent who is doing this whole thing, experimenting with the ooy, trying to see what will happen if he offers him to a club that (suddenly, like Real, or regardless) definitely needs a good defender, like Inter, for example, or Napoli…, this could plant the seed of destructive relations between the club and the player’s entourage, which will lead to bad things in the future. Things like asking for insane money for themselves, just for signing an extension of the contract, or making a transfer, etc…
That’s (the agents and the power the governing body allowed them to have) one of the biggest diseases that are plaguing today’s football and corrupting the players throughout their careers!
