AC Milan defender Emerson Royal believes that he can win a place back in the Brazilian national team with his club form, and he is enjoying life after his summer move.

There was a mixed reaction when Milan confirmed the signing of the full-back from Spurs, but the most important opinion is that of the head coach Paulo Fonseca who continues to show his trust by giving him repeated starts.

Davide Calabria has missed the last few games with a calf issue which has helped him secure a guaranteed starting position, but the feeling is that the club captain will have to win the right-back role for Emerson.

The challenge for the former Barcelona and Real Betis man is to put in consistent performances and knock on the door of the Brazilian national team to further his international ambitions, something Cafu believes is possible.

Emerson Royal spoke to Sky in the build-up to the game against Club Brugge, with his comments relayed by MilanNews.

Are the consistent starts helping your confidence?

“I feel more and more confident, absolutely. There is always more difficulty in games like these, but I train every day even at home to always feel better and help my team-mates.”

Cafu said some nice words for you, stating that you can win a Brazil spot back thanks to your performances at Milan…

“Absolutely, it is possible. I think I have the ability and Cafu for me is a legend. I am really happy that he said these words for me.”

Do you feel comfortable at Milan?

“Absolutely. For my part, I always try to help the team and do my job. I only think about the team, my teammates who are fantastic and have tried to help me since day one.”

Is tonight a decisive match?

“Every match is important for us. We definitely have to win tonight, we lost the first two games and we know how important it is. We will give everything to get the three points.”

  1. OK, so Emerson is feeling “more confident” while I am feeling less and less confident in Emerson. Good for him, he is self-confident. Too bad it doesn’t match the reality of his lack of skills and slowness.

He is a very bad player. He is a downgrade over Calabria who isn’t doing well either. How the management got a downgrade rather than an upgrade for the RB is a mystery. It wasn’t that hard to upgrade on Calabria but they got the harder task of actually hiring a downgrade.
