Empoli manager explains what his players must do to beat ‘quality’ Milan side

By Isak Möller -

AC Milan will take on Empoli at San Siro tomorrow afternoon and following two consecutive wins, they will be looking to make it three. During his presser, the Tuscan side’s manager Davide Nicola explained what is needed to stop the Rossoneri from doing that.

Empoli have had a rough season, with three different managers, and most recently lost against Cagliari. However, that defeat came after a six-game unbeaten run (3W, 3D), holding the likes of Fiorentina and Juventus to draws in that period.

Davide Nicola took over the team in early January and managed to revive the team, with the Cagliari defeat being his first. He will need to prove tomorrow that the unbeaten run wasn’t just the ‘new manager effect’, though he admitted that it won’t be easy.

“When talking about a team like Milan, it’s not easy to identify the flaws. However, this is our job and we have done so. It will take a volcanic Empoli in terms of energy and organisation. We trained well, the important thing is doing everything with maximum concentration but also enthusiasm.

“The desire to compete with a high-quality team, used to playing every three days, is an absolute growth opportunity for us,” he said during the press, as cited by MilanNews.

Milan need a much better performance than what we saw on Thursday, although they won by four goals to two in the end. They cannot count on playing with one more man tomorrow, though, which is why Pioli is set to field a very strong team.
