Ex-assistant admits Conte ‘could accept Milan’ but hints at need for ‘investments’

By Oliver Fisher -

Antonio Conte’s trusted assistant Angelo Alessio has admitted that the head coach could be tempted by the AC Milan job, as long as the project were right.

Having coached rivals Juventus and Inter, Conte has often been linked with the Milan job especially in times when Stefano Pioli’s position as manager has looked under threat. He remains out of work after leaving Spurs, something that a loss to the Rossoneri in the Champions League seemed to accelerate.

Alessio was Conte’s right-hand man from his beginnings with Siena right up to his experience at Chelsea, but in January 2019 he confirmed his intention to start a career of his own as a head coach, thus effectively ending his long-time collaboration with Conte.

He gave an interview to Tuttosport about what the future holds for the former Juventus and Inter boss, failing to rule out that he might complete the ‘big three’ by coaching Milan one day.

“This year he also said publicly that he will stay put. In the summer many will certainly be looking for him both in Italy both abroad. We’re talking about an extraordinary coach. Whoever signs him gets a bargain,” he said (via MilanNews).

We’re talking about Milan, right?

“We need to understand well how foreign ownerships think in terms of investments and objectives. He is certainly a great professional and has always said over the years that he would have no foreclosures when it comes to an important project.

“How it went at Inter, he could accept Milan or go elsewhere. At the moment I see few benches available at his level, but it’s early.”

    1. Absolutely not.
His teams play park the bus and counter.
You can’t build a project around him because he is an unstable person who will quit on you mid season or during pre season.
Plus Milan just got rid off one dude who wanted to whine, complain to the media and create a negative atmosphere around the club , didn’t get along with his coworkers or superiors , you don’t need to bring another one who is 10 times worst in that department.
If you are willing to pay money for coach get De Zerbi. Reports came out that Brighton wouldn’t stay in his way if he wants to leave for a bigger club. Bring De Zerbi.

      1. @Z , you are joke, aren’t you? Do you have normal brain and logic? Recently you were talking about bringing Xabi Alonso lol. De Zerbi is one of the brightest coach at the moment… And you think that our board can bring him? There is a huge difference between FIFA and real life

        1. I don’t think I have ever mentioned Xabi Alfonso.
Also, my comment was in response to the article about Conte, not turtle comment, don’t know why it was posted under his comment.
And I really don’t know what you are on about sir or ma’am.

          1. Yes, he is unstable because he doesn’t want to work with peasants and asks for the best. He left Inter because they were selling key players. Only a genius can call that unstable. Conte is more than stable, he actually knows exactly what he wants…One of the most successful coaches in history of football, and he did only about 10 seasons.

          2. @Tkoje1,@Doki
Oh is that why he quit Inter?
How about quitting Juventus couple of weeks into pre season?
How about quitting Tottenham mid season while they were still in the race for top 4?
Were Juventus and Tottenham owners peasants, and wanted to sell their best players?
Everywhere he goes he leaves on bad terms prematurely.
But i guess every time it is the other people’s fault.
Sounds very similar to someone else.

      2. Oh oh! Not so subtle dig at Maldini! I got it!!!

And Maldini’s biggest criticism of management while he was here was his comment about needing bigger investment to compete on both fronts.

The rest was behind the scenes and it certainly doesn’t sound like whining.

I love how passionately you’re hate is.

      3. “Plus Milan just got rid off one dude who wanted to whine, complain to the media and create a negative atmosphere around the club , didn’t get along with his coworkers or superiors”
They got rid of Scaroni??? 😲😲😲 When did that happen? I must have missed it !

        1. Ha ha, c’mon IKWYDLS i know you can do better than this.
          Read it again.
That was an embarrassing attempt at a witty response. Even you gotta admit that.
Scaroni, complains, creates a bad atmosphere, not getting along with coworkers and SUPERIORS?!
          Since when?
I thought Scaroni was the Yes Man?
When did he become all of those other things?
From what’s listed up there which one really fits Scaroni. Probably only being a Yes Man. Mr. Stadioni is a quiet older man, following orders.
You usually post intelligent comments here but this Maldini issue got you rattled. You are too emotional on this issue. It interferes with your deductive reasoning.

          1. “Although we are playing in a Champions League semi-final, we are not yet at the level of the best clubs. We have to make investments now, to reach that level and not risk taking steps backwards,”

Is this what you were talking about, haha. Explain to us in better words what he said wrong here, the one whining here is you, not him.

          2. @Doki.
There is more context than just one sentence.
First he was calling for investments on TV. You do that behind closed doors during meetings. And especially you don’t go on TV after you were told NO behind closed doors. No owner would put up with that kind of insubordination, not just RedBird and Cardinale.
2nd. That came after he was denied momey to make an investment in January for the great Zaniolo. Remember that?
            Thank God he was denied.
3.Also, this came after he gave another interview right after Milan won the scudetto, talking crap about Gazidis and Elliott.
RedBird wasn’t even in the door yet and they have this sporting director creating negative attention off the bat.
Also, he was calling out an ownership who was not at the club for even 8 months. At least give the people time to settle in.
He acted as a spoiled, entitled, petulant brat. Grown men don’t act like that.
That’s why I compared Conte to him because Conte does the same thing.

          3. Well it got you laughing didn’t it? 😅
I’m too emotional on the issue? I’m not here in a non-Maldini article talking about Maldini. He lives rent free in your head apparently and I’m all the merrier for it 😂😂😂

      4. Ahh can’t make a comment without reference to to a certain someone. Especially when that comment is flavored with falsehood.

        RENT FREE🤦‍♂️🤦‍♂️

      5. As usual the poli kid can’t hold back his hate boner for Maldini despite the article isn’t about him.

What a clown you are :/

    2. I would love Ten Hag. His biggest trouble is that he’s dealing with so many headaches who think they are better than they are.

He didn’t have to deal with that at Ajax and might only have a player or 2 at Milan.

Personal feeling is he could be great for us.

      1. Man United fans are the real headache, they said Ten Hag doesn’t play good football and has no tactics, yeah right, look at his performance and matches with Ajax.
That whole club is run by their players, same story with every manager after SAF.

  1. I too do not want Conte, but i think early on when Redbird took over i seem to recall reading an article that said that someone like Conte is who Gerry Cardinale would want to manage Milan…..i hope Gerry has forgot about Conte!

  2. 1. Conte is a proveb domestic winner. No arguing that. His football isn’t always attractive, it’s often utilitarian. He will play defensive football and counter, but given Milan’s current injury status, that may not be a bad tactic especially against the likes of Inter when in fact that’s exactly how you need to play.

    2. Conte fails in Europe more often than not and Milan is trying to build up its presence exactly on that front, this season notwithstanding.

    3. Conte will request expensive transfers that will frankly not be in line with Redbird budget and strategy. Furthermore, Conte himself won’t come cheap.

    4. If Conte doesn’t get what he needs, he gets dramatic, huffs and puffs, sets the place on fire and leaves. Very Disruptive.

So I would say Conte doesn’t really fit this project, in my opinion. And in case all this speculation is useless until summer anyway.

    1. This. Plus his preferred tactics/formation would mean getting rid of our two best players (Leao and Pulisic), plus Chukwueze. There is no room for wingers on a Conte squad. Then we’ll have to bring in his type of players. So, yet another transfer revolution. Fast-forward 18 months and Conte will have quit leaving the club to pick up the pieces. This not the solution we need.

  3. Conte is erratic, petulant and honestly an average Coach, his way of playing will not make Milan successful in Europe, look at Tottenham now , majority of the squad is the main core of the club, and they are excelling in the EPL, he will destabilise the club..

  4. Conte still have the magic on him..yes just maybe his football philosophy sometimes ok sometimes not and sometimes boring but look at Simeone at atletico for 10 years he always using his 3 man defence formation and it’s works and still make him and his team 1 of the world most exciting and powerful team to beat.
