Paulo Fonseca Head coach of AC Milan

CorSport: ‘The fatal hour’ – Fonseca’s job ‘in the balance’ with win needed in Verona

AC Milan are currently staring down the barrel of a battle just to get into the Champions League places, and Verona could be ‘fatal’ for Paulo Fonseca.

According to this morning’s edition of Corriere dello Sport (via SpazioMilan), there is the possibility that Fonseca could be sacked if Milan do not get a positive result at the Stadio Bentegodi against Verona tonight.

If the Rossoneri were to fail to win, the management would have to ask serious questions about his work. At the moment, Milan are in eighth place with only 23 points amassed and Atalanta are first with 37 points, albeit with a game in hand.

Who would come in his place? Among Zlatan Ibrahimovic’s ideas could be two coaches that he has known very well and at different moments in his career. The first is Roberto Mancini, who he had when he was at Inter.

The second option is Max Allegri, a coach who would return to Milan after winning the 18th Scudetto in 2010-11. However, Maurizio Sarri’s name seems the most possible for Milan and the reason is linked to his salary.

The former Napoli and Chelsea coach could settle for a lower figure than what Allegri could earn, which must be considered given that the club would have to keep paying Fonseca’s current salary unless a mutual termination was agreed.

  1. Anyone who continues to field Emerson deserves to be fired, as do those who signed him.

That list of alternative coaches is pure sh1t too.

    1. Not only Emerson. The coach himself is not convincing nor able to balance or keep performance for more than 2 games. Let alone being in control of his players.
He will and should leave soon. Milan can’t and shouldn’t wait this long for under par managerial performance. We haven’t seen such over patience from a big club in Europe Leagues. Its just a disaster top management and ownership of our club that shows ZERO understanding form the Americans for Football in Europe.

  2. i just dosent understand getting emerson the problem is that we dont have any other good rb but emerson is the worst rb we have avaliable

      1. We don’t know for sure.
We already knew since last year that he has a lot of potential attacking wise, but defensively he might be even worse than Emerson.
Genoa had no teeth and is not a good testimony on how good/bad he is.

        1. I agree that defensively Jimenez is like Theo and could improve. Whereas Emerson’s growth potential is questionable. But I’d rather give the Spaniard minutes to grow and improve at RB than watch Emerson do the same game in and game out.

  3. sure i can say emerson is better than jiminez at defending for sure but emerson is as useful as a brick when attacking jiminez has proven to be a much better attacking choice than emerson calabria and chuk
