Evening Standard: FIFA rules stopped Milan from signing want-away Chelsea striker

Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang is not happy with his situation at Chelsea and tried to move from the club in January. However, despite interest from AC Milan and Atletico Madrid, he couldn’t leave due to FIFA rules.

The 33-year-old striker was left out of Chelsea’s Champions League squad by Graham Potter and the former didn’t take it well. This came after he tried to force a January move, before realising the rules didn’t allow him to leave.

As per Evening Standard, the likes of Milan and Atletico Madrid expressed an interest in signing Aubameyang in January. However, since he has played for both Barcelona and Chelsea this season, he’s not allowed to join a third club as per FIFA rules.

Milan have been linked with Aubameyang many times over the years, one of the reasons being that he actually was in the club’s academy back in the day. And as of late, they have struggled with a lack of depth in the centre-forward position, hence the interest.

Maybe the matter will come alive in the summer again, but it seems unlikely as Milan have other targets for then.
