Florenzi highlights why Milan won the Scudetto and names the two aims for 2022-23

Alessandro Florenzi has named AC Milan’s targets for the upcoming season having completed a permanent move over the summer.

Florenzi arrived at Milan in the summer of 2021 on an initial season-long loan deal from Roma, and despite having a couple of injury set-backs which required minor knee surgery, signing him permanently seemed like a no-brainer given his experience and versatility.

The Italy international was a big part of the team that went on to win the Scudetto last season, finding himself deployed as a right winger, then a right-back and even as a left-back in times of defensive crisis.

Florenzi spoke during an interview with Sky about how his summer has gone and his thoughts ahead of a very important season for Milan both domestically and in Europe.

“It was a quiet summer between vacation and work. I am happy to have been bought by Milan. I left Roma with regret, but I immediately turned the page. I want to write new important pages in my future,” he said (via MilanNews).

On the new season: “Many teams have strengthened. Last year we won with merit, we want to reiterate this again this year. It will not be easy, everyone will give their all to beat the Italian champions. We have to work and think about the match. after game without making too many proclamations. Let’s think about Udinese and then about one game at a time. We have to defend what we won on the pitch last year.”

On the Scudetto: “There was a great team spirit, we all pushed on the same side. We may not have been the strongest on paper, but the strongest don’t always win. There are small things that give great results. Even in difficult moments we have became a group and we have overcome adversity.”

On the targets for 2022-23: “In the league we want to repeat ourselves and win the second star, it’s our big goal. It won’t be easy, but it’s our target. In the Champions League we have to improve what we did last year, many had no experience in this one. competition, but last year’s matches taught us a lot. We have to try to do better in the Champions League.”

On the growth of young players: “They have already grown a lot. Even the purchase of Origi can bring us many. He is a player who will be respected. We have great quality and experience forward. We have three players who can have their say. Origi has great charisma, it can help us a lot.”

On saying goodbye to Roma: “I changed a lot because when I left Roma for other clubs it was not my will. But I have to say one thing: in recent years I have seen many towns and cities. I have become cultured a lot. I have experienced things that I have not before. I thought I was living. At the beginning of my career it was to do my entire career in Rome, this was not possible, but I had the opportunity to grow at the level of life.”

On Adli: “You have to let him work quietly, he has to give him time. He has great qualities, the coach has to get something out of him and I’m sure he will know how to do it. He settled in very well, before singing a song in French he introduced himself in Italian he was really good.”
