Florenzi’s lawyer confirms case is ‘similar’ to Zaniolo: “He has never bet on football”

Alessandro Florenzi was questioned about his gambling activity by the Public Prosecutor in Turin yesterday and his lawyer has now shared an update. As suspected, the AC Milan defender is not under investigation for betting on football.

The news about Florenzi’s involvement broke on Wednesday evening, confirming that an interrogation was scheduled for Thursday. Naturally, many Milan fans were worried about the severity of the case, seeing as the former Rossoneri man Sandro Tonali was suspended for ten months.

However, as had been anticipated by the media, Florenzi is not under investigation for betting on football. Speaking to TV Play, as translated by Football Italia, Gianluca Tognozzi confirmed that the Milan defender was questioned about his gambling activity.

“As we already wrote in the statement that we released to the media, Florenzi is in no way accused of anything regarding football bets, they are merely personal bets that we clarified. I hope there will be no more to say, it is a very similar situation to Zaniolo.

“This has absolutely nothing to do with the world of football. The prosecutor in Turin did not send anything to the sporting justice prosecutor, because this is not related to football.

“Florenzi confirmed to the prosecutor in Turin that he has never bet on football in his life and there is absolutely no suggestion that he did,” he stated.

The likely outcome of the investigation, therefore, is a fine for betting on illegal sites. From a sporting point of view, however, he will not be punished and this is certainly good news for Milan. While he may not be a fan favourite, Stefano Pioli needs all hands on deck.
