Florenzi says Leao being happy ‘is the most important thing’ after win over Verona

AC Milan winger Alessandro Florenzi has spoken about Rafael Leao following the Rossoneri’s 1-0 win over Verona in Serie A on Saturday afternoon.

Speaking to DAZN after the match (via Milan News), one of the topics that Florenzi was asked about was Leao having the captain’s armband.

He explained that everyone in the team is happy if Leao is happy, showing how aware everyone is of the Portuguese forward’s immense talent and importance.

“I think it was good for him. Hopefully the captain and the deputy will be back soon, we all serve here. He’s an intelligent guy, he knows when he makes mistakes. It’s enough for us that he’s happy, that’s the most important thing,” Florenzi explained.

It was Leao who got the only goal of the game on Saturday in what was a very tepid performance from Milan.

Florenzi was asked about the criticism that the team had to take after the defeat to Inter last weekend.

“Criticism is part of the game, we simply must not listen to it and go on our way and with our ideas. We played a good match and we achieved our goal. Let’s move on, there are still many matches before the break,” he said.

Asked how he is feeling about Milan’s fortunes right now, Florenzi said: “I, like the whole team, feel part of an important group. Part of a group that doesn’t give up if you don’t play 2-3 games: you stay on the bench and support the group. I think that’s the real key to moving forward in life and in football.”

Milan have many games coming up and on the busy calendar, Florenzi said: “There are so many matches, we have to be ready for everything. We have to be a team.”

There was an exciting moment when 17-year-old Davide Bartesaghi made his debut for the senior team and Florenzi was asked what he said to the youngster.

“He’s a strong player. Surely he must have been excited, he didn’t enter like all the debuts that maybe make you enter at 4-0 or 5-0, but he entered a tight game, a real game. He has great qualities, he did well. I congratulate him,” he said.

  1. Love the 3 pts but this game was weird for me. I feel like we should see players able to express themselves according to their strengths consistently and tactics that should allow these expressions to be revealed and that should give us a style of play……or at least the beginning outlines of a style.

We look like we are still searching. I think we all agree tijji has class but we didn’t see that express today. I didn’t see much of anything. Musah looks like he could be a menace and that’s good. Idk. On to the next game…
