Florenzi confesses Milan were ‘angry’ after defeat: “I don’t remember much of Napoli”

By Oliver Fisher -

Alessandro Florenzi seemed frustrated that AC Milan lost to a Napoli side that he doesn’t ‘remember much of’ and insisted the team are ‘angry’ after the defeat.

Milan could have put some breathing room between themselves and Napoli but instead their title hopes were dealt a blow as they were beaten 1-0 by Napoli at San Siro for the second straight season. In the end it was a header from a corner from Elif Elmas inside five minutes that won the game as Stefano Pioli’s poor record against Luciano Spalletti continued and Napoli jumped above Milan in the table into second place.

The game ended up being marred by some late VAR controversy as Franck Kessie looked to have equalised in the last minute but the goal was ruled out for an offside on Olivier Giroud that seemed harsh given he was not affecting play at all.

Florenzi spoke to DAZN after the game to reflect on the defeat and on the performance shown by both teams, with his comments transcribed by MilanNews.

“Honestly, Napoli played their game, apart from the goal on the set piece and Petagna’s shot in the 70th, I don’t remember much of Napoli. Today we missed the last step. We played a good match, we didn’t deserve to lose,” he said.

On the mood in the dressing room: “We were angry, rightly so. A little for the result and a little for the canceled goal, also for the Napoli goal that was born on a throw-in given to them by us. I’m not saying that all defeats are bad, but it also depends on how you lose. Playing in this way, improving in the last step, in my opinion you lose a few of these games. Tonight it was at least a draw.”
