GdS: Florenzi’s return after nearly 200 days sees Pioli recover another option

There were not many positives from Monday night’s 1-1 draw against Salernitana but one of them was the long-awaited return of Alessandro Florenzi.

La Gazzetta dello Sport (via PianetaMilan) have written this morning about the return of Florenzi who got back on the field 195 days after the tendon injury that he sustained during the 0-0 draw against Sassuolo back on 30 August 2022.

He was in severe pain at the time and it proved to be a very serious injury which convinced Milan – on the last day of that summer transfer window – to get Sergiño Dest from Barcelona on loan while Florenzi flew to Finland to undergo surgery.

He came off the bench months later and spoke after the game to reveal his emotions: I’ve been through difficult months. It wasn’t easy to experience everything from the outside. I missed the pitch, I missed the stadium and I missed my team-mates.”

Yesterday on his social media profiles he added: “From here to the end there will be a lot to fight. From here to the end it will take more and more sweat. For our goal. Happy to be back. To fight. To sweat. From here to the end. For our goal.”

Not only does Pioli have an experienced leader back in the squad for the most delicate phase of the season, but he also has another option for the right wing-back role given it is a position he knows well.
