Fonseca comments after Milan announcement: “An honour, a pride, a responsibility”

Paulo Fonseca has given his first brief comment since being named as the new head coach of AC Milan, describing it as an ‘honour’ to get the job.

Milan officially announced Fonseca as their new head coach earlier today, putting the weeks of speculation to an end. The appointment was confirmed in conjunction with today’s big press conference ahead of the 2024-25 season, led by Zlatan Ibrahimovic.

Fonseca’s arrival had been more or less certain for a few weeks now based on the media reports that were circulating but now planning for the season ahead can formally begin, with an important summer mercato ahead.

The former Lille and Roma boss arrives amid a backdrop of uncertainty, with some fans having called for Milan to make a more ambitious appointment. However, Ibrahimovic explained on stage why the club decided to go for him.

Fonseca has spoken after the news was announced, publishing a tweet in reply to the official statement that Milan put out, stating: “An honour, a pride, a responsibility. Forza Milan!”

Some more comments were then circulated from Milan’s press department: “I am proud to take on the role of AC Milan manager and I will work to honour this Club and its great history.

“Together, we will strive for excellence and to write a new chapter of successes that I hope can be celebrated with our extraordinary fans. Forza Milan!”

The details of when his first press conference will be are not yet known, while preseason is likely to begin in the first week of July with friendlies to follow after.

  1. Let’s go, Paulo!!!
Hopefully, you can coach a better football than just counterattacks or pass tge ball to the wingers with zero ideas like your predecessor.

    1. “One night, I went to a bar; I was with a woman. We talked all night. We laughed, we flirted, I paid for several drinks of hers. At around 5 am, a guy came in, grabbed her by the arm and took her to the bathroom. He made love to her and she left with him. That doesn’t matter, because I had most of the possession on that night.”

      Jorge Sampaoli

We want trophies, leave better football to sissies like Xavi’s Barcelona

    2. “Hopefully, you can coach a better football than just counterattacks or pass tge ball to the wingers with zero ideas like your predecessor.”

The bar has been set really low. 🙂

  2. In other news , the great coach Roberto De Zerbi is about to become Olimpique Marseille new coach.
Many in here were hyping him up , saying that Milan is trying to hire a coach like Fonseca, a coach that no big club wants but clubs like Marseille while the great De Zerbi is available, just so we can find out that no big team wants De Zerbi and he ends up at Marseille.😂

    1. Is Kompany a world class manager because he took over Bayern? I was never fond of De Zerbi as he’s nothing special but the fact remains, no other foreign coach won Serie A in last 30 years apart from Mourinho and Eriksson. Is Fonseca the next in line? I’l l give him the benefit of the doubt but my expectations are close to none.

    2. Man no offense but you’re the only one in the entire world being hyped by Fonseca. The management could hire the gardener of Milanello as the new coach and you would be like Forza gardener…

      1. I support Milan.
Milan chose this coach. I had no say in the matter.
Since Fonseca is going to be Milan’s new coach I support Fonseca.
Accepting reality and what you can control is far better than living in the past and being mad some director got fired a year ago and hoping the club will fail with dream that said bad director gets hired back.
        No offense of course.
        Forza Milan, Forza Fonseca.

        1. So what you’re saying is that you revoke your right to critical thinking somehow and that you would support any decision as long as it’s enveloped in red and black. That’s your choice, I’ll respect that.

          1. Critical thinking?
Is that what you call the b!tching, crying, whinning and hating you have been doing for a year now? Happy belated anniversary BTW.
Your hatred towards Milan ownership and management is so bad that you even hate their push to build Milan their own stadium. You, the mayor and the other corrupt bureaucrats are the only people that are against a new stadium.
But , yeah it’s critical thinking to you..
Fonseca is a better coach than De Zerbi. The numbers and trophies back that up. There isn’t even a need to think let alone critically.

          2. Man it’s getting ridiculous. You have the right to act like one of the first faithful but don’t invent when you just don’t understand. Go on Milan social media and watch the “btching, crying, whinning” from the fans.

As for San Siro, I live close so yeah I prefer that area. It’s also a temple for the club and its tradition of victories, it’s where the glory happened, what made Milan what it is today. There are problems yes but nothing that renovations couldn’t solve. Don’t tell me it’s the Italian mentality, middle age or sht, I’ve been to the Rose Bowl Stadium and the Cotton Bowl, it’s old but it’s mythic. I don’t understand why the club has to move outside of the city but so be it. I guess the mayor of Milan is corrupted but the one of San Donato is not. Again, your narrative, everywhere.

To me you just prove that there is a s*cker born every minute, as you say in America.

          3. But critical thinking should also allow for the possibility that Fonseca will win silverware. I mean, what if he wins the league a couple of times? I don’t think anyone here knows what’s going to happen, otherwise I’d ask them for the next set of lottery numbers. I’m I excited by this appointment on the face of it? Not particularly, but I can’t also say that Fonseca won’t be a success before he’s even managed one game.

          4. “Go on Milan social media and watch the “btching, crying, whinning” from the fans.”
            Ha ha 😂.
            That’s your response?
Social media isn’t a real place.
Why don’t you go outside, get some sun, touch grass.

        2. “Since Fonseca is going to be Milan’s new coach I support Fonseca.”. Finally, couldn’t agree more. It’s out of our hands these decisions. I’m am so happy that you supported the current management hiring of Fonseca in very much the same way you supported Maldini hiring Pioli several years ago. That’s fantastic to hear 🤗

          1. I did support Maldini hiring Pioli, just like I supported Maldini hiring Giampaolo, a hire that maldinisti want to act like it never happened.
I also very much supported the firing of Giampaolo, Maldini and Pioli.
Just like I will support the firing of the current management or coach if they don’t perform well. What I won’t do is cry for days and months after any of them like you and your buddy have been doing these last 12 months and will continue to do no doubt.
I support Milan the club. Everyone else just passes by.

      2. Some of you anti milan. Bunch of haters. Keep your negative ideas to yourself. Chelsea spend millions and did not even qualify for champions league straight 2 yrs. Milan is getting better and doing well. If u can’t support milan back off

        1. Yeah this club only need fans who bow to mocanda. Ppl who always satisfied with mocanda job. Nobody can critize this club. Coz this club is the best club in da wurld.

    3. RDZ is my first choice, but now that Fonseca is here, I will support him, and hopefully he will bring us the second star.

However, I’m a bit intrigued by your slight towards RDZ. Whether he went to Marseille or Kaizer Chief or Tiong Bahru FC personally doesnt affect my opinion that he’s a promising coach. Surely when Ancelotti coached Everton, he doesnt suddenly become crap overnight and no other team wants him?! Dont know why you’re mocking him and the people who thinks that he has potential.

  3. The radiant positivity of some here is infectious. Fonseca wasn’t my first choice either, but come on… Wishing us to fail. You aren’t no Milan fan.

Fonseca has my full support and I think he will do well. As far as what happened at Roma with him? Roma is far from a stable team management wise.

    1. To be honest, I often see people wish their club to have failed season so they can learn what mistake they made. It’s not wrong move tho.

    2. Biased narrative, as always. No one is expecting Milan to fail, it’s actually the opposite. People want the club to succeed and they’re questioning the moves and the club’s policy in that aspect.

      1. What a contradictory statement. You want Milan to fail so you can sit on this site and say “I told you so”. Just like Maldinis Heir.

  4. In God I trust, we have been tru tick n thin as Milan fans, most of us doubted pioli wen he took over as Milan coach, the same pioli gave us our 19th scudetto after 11 years. Nobody knew that a great club like Bayern will hire Vincent kompany. I gave my 100% support to Fonseca as Milan new coach…I pray he succeed to give us the 2nd star.

  5. You are indeed welcome to the greatest football on earth,my prayer for you is simple,,,,,,,You will achieve excellent success in Jesus name
    Forza Paulo,
    Forza Milan
