Naturally, as the head coach of a struggling team, Paulo Fonseca’s future continues to be speculated about. However, it will apparently not depend on Friday’s result.
A report from Calciomercato.com yesterday claimed that a bad result against Verona at the Stadio MarcAntonio Bentegodi – the last before Christmas – could spell the end for the Portuguese. The eight-point gap to fourth is alarming, as is all the protest surrounding the club.
Correire della Sera (via MilanPress) have responded to the claims by stating that Fonseca is not at risk of being sacked on Friday after the game Hellas Verona. The club has already made this clear: they will continue with him, even in the event of a negative result.
After the match against Genoa there was an exchange of analysis of the match between the coach and the management that reiterated the strength of the squad available to the coach, in other words the belief that it is currently underperforming.
The problem highlighted is the motivation of the group, often absent in the games that do not carry the same glamour as the derby or big Champions League nights. During the debrief it was also stressed that getting a UCL spot in the league is the minimum objective for 2024-25.
I guess they alrealy acknowledged that the season is over so what’s the point of hiring a new coach.
It is very unlikely we’ll play UCL next season and 7th to 17th are all the same, so might as well spend as few money as possible and keep the current coach.
They are probable calculating: Roma already changed 2 coaches, and cant get result. So the same thing is going to happen with Milan squad. They will finish this year, and look at final financial statement. After this season they can sack Fonseca, and sell everyone they want to sell to decrease loss in season 2025/2026 which will be Milan zero season with new coach and some new players, where they can focus only to bring team in europe again…
That way they will show how they are succsefull, even without europen games…
Totally wrong. Now there is time to save the season. Fonseca will go, and he will go before the end of the season, but it will be to late for his successor. As things stand, Milan is hardly watchable, even Ibra will not be able to sit down in the stadium and watch few more months of Fonseca. It was a bad choice, a very very optimistic bet, and its time to turn the page. No matter the idiotic management and no sporting director, a good couch can do a lot. But please, do not let it be another bet. Take someone who knows Seria A at least.
I agree. I think the title is not possible, but 4th still is. If Fiorentina can reel off 10 straight wins, so can we. We have a better squad when all are healthy. We just need to find the right coach. As to someone who knows Serie A, there aren’t many available with good profiles, but there is Mancini, Sarri (although his system takes time), and Mark van Bommel, someone spoken of during the summer when we were looking for the Pioli replacement, who not only know Serie A, but the club as well.
But what si wrong choice ? Heiring Fonseca ? There are many wrong choices which bring Milan now here, and not only Fonseca.
If you doing the same thing over and over again, you are going to have always same result. Milan results and Fonseca are final product of Milan management job. They cant “fix” things in January, by acking Fonseca.
They can things only if they start doing their jobs and things differently than during last two seasons.
If you want to believe it’s impossible to change course this season, that’s your choice. 8pts to Fiorentina and Lazio is not insurmountable. Lazio is already beginning to founder, as they’ve lost 2 of the last 3, and we have a game in had on them. Fiorentina is better, but I think they’ll slow down too. Bologna doesn’t enter into the conversation. Juventus is my only concern, as they appear to be as hard to beat as ever, and if they figure out their offense they may end up being the difficult ones to catch for 4th.
Ah, your usual bs. Sure, money is their primary concern after spending over €200 million in 2 years.
Strawman argument.
My post didn’t state that money is their primary concern nor that they didn’t spend good amounts during the last 2 years (although around half or more of that money came from selling players), it simply stated: “so might as well spend as few money as possible”.
Actually most of these idiots get involved in football not to make money but because of egos and for image washing.
They’re as qualified as you and I.
I still have to question all of the money swirling around the transfer market very little of which make sense, and the agents who are richer than actual footballers.
I’d say there’s some interesting stuff happening in offshore bank accounts.
Top 4 isn’t put of reach. It will probably between us and Juve to the end.
This proves yet again, if there were ever need for extra proof, that we have 0 ambition and no guts. With Fonseca, we are guaranteed to stay outside of Top 4 this year. He is at best a mediocre coach and nothing significant can be expected from him.
Firing is easy name a realistic one, not Guardiola, Ancelotti…
Exactly. There aren’t any until next season.
Mancini, Sarri, van Bommel, Conceicao are all available now. Who do you expect “next season”? Klopp, Guardiola or Xavi? Those managers work for clubs that spend and compete, not ones that try to find bargains and build out of the academy.
Whats wrong with Alegri? Whats wrong with anybody who is free now… Ahh the problem is he should have been appointed in first place. OK lets keep Fonseca because Anceloti and Guardiala are unrealistic.
I’m not sure I’d even want Ancelotti. I love Carlo, but he’s ALWAYS been the type of manager that excels in getting a group of stars to work together vs. being some tactical genius and/or taking raw talent to the next level. He was unable to get Everton and Napoli to punch above their weight when that’s what he was brought in to do. Carlo would instead be perfect for Man City, for example, which is going stale under Guardiola, or perhaps even a return to Bayern if Kompany doesn’t work out, although if he wins the league then I think he’s safe. Most likely Carlo will retire when he departs Madrid anyway.
How
The objective at the start of the season (before we hired fonsesca) was to win the league, and at this point I don’t think we are getting top 4, and what the hell was the management thinking hiring fonsesca if we wanted to win the league if there was way better options
There were not “way” better options. There was toxic Conte, outdated coaches like Allegri, and unproven coaches like De Zerbi. Given how well Lazio and Fiorentina are doing, the argument over big name coaches is a non-starter.
Outdated Alegri ??? I mean this guy took Moreti, Fragioli, Gati, and had no problem finishing top 4 with non existent midfielders in the squad. Yes, his brand of football is hard to watch, maybe the worse one there… But he also brings results and is fantastic with youngsters. Ofcourse, you can always place another bet on any young couch, but please do not taka someone who is a proven failure. For god sake, what is there in Fonseca CV that can make anybody think he might have any success in Milan ? I think is the same criteria that made Emerson Rojal a good idea in expense of Kalulu.
So you have moved from there were no coaches and no young coaches, to there were no “way better” coaches.
Classic. Excuses after excuses. 🤣😂
That counts as a progress though. Now of course he had to insert terms like “toxic” and “outdated” just to make it look like he had a good point.
Dude is the Fonseca of commenters, just excuses after excuses
The Fonseca of commentators!
That’s a keeper.
We could just use Fonseca as an adjective – he’s done a Fonseca.
If they want… After last horrible results I don’t want to watch another suffer and I think more fans do the same + against Roma i don’t be surprised if San siro would be half full… so many chances to go up and be few points from top 4 , but no it’s better on 8th place and maybe after Verona game we will be on 9th..
You can suport Fonseca , but definitely we need someone who brings results, like Alegri or Sarri..
LOL
What ambitious owners we have!!!!
🤡🤡🤡🤡🤡🤡🤡🤡🤡🤡🤡🤡🤡🤡🤡🤡🤡🤡
This is wild, we still have a shot of top 4 if we make a change. Things aren’t getting better, how can they justify this donkey of a coach?
We have no chance to make the top four and I don’t think that we can even qualify for the UCL. Fonseca is a mediocre coach and a bad person, he is a divider. He needs to go.
if they sack Fvckseca they accept that everyone is right but management, sacking is financial costly.
they r too proud & cheap to accept they r wrong.
stupidity + proud = delusional
