Sky: Fonseca will not start Emerson or Calabria vs. Monza – the replacement

Although both AC Milan right-backs are fit at the same time for the first time in weeks, Paulo Fonseca is looking elsewhere for this weekend’s fixture.

There cannot be any more mistakes made by Milan or Fonseca in the next few games, otherwise, the Portuguese head coach would be placed into a similar situation – a few games to save his job. Discussions were had after the loss to Napoli, and time is running out for results to change.

Due to this, reports have suggested that the head coach is looking to make wholesale changes this weekend – largely due to the returns of several key players, and the defence is expected to be changed massively.

However, there have been some ballots taking place, notably in central defence and right back, and it seems that the head coach has reached a decision, at least at full-back. As Sky (via Milan News) report, although Davide Calabria has returned from injury, he will not be the one to displace Emerson Royal.

Instead, Fonseca will offer Filippo Teracciano a chance to impress on his natural side. Seeing a ballot over the position is not a shock, but the winner of the ballot certainly is. However, sometimes you have to make bold calls.

    1. Lulu has been decent, but he’s been exposed at Juve without Bremer saving his ass.
The only bad thing about selling him off was that it was to a direct rival (should’ve allowed Juve to rot in hell).
But selling Kalulu in itself wasn’t a bad move.
He’s showing his “true qualities” now.

          1. ??? He played 34 games in Serie A the season before last. He was only unavailable last season. What is this, justify the sale for dummies? Don’t make stuff up.

  1. I’m actually curious to see how Terracciano does on the right side, supposedly his natural position. He hasn’t impressed me on the left, but on the right, the bar is low. It’s not that hard to be better than Emerson or the current version of Calabria (who used to be better than he is, now).

    1. You forgot to add #Calabria27YearOldWashUp at the end of your comment.

Just to make sure you’re trending with the rest of the group think on this subject.

  2. Terraciano has improved even on the left, his natural position is on the right, which would be good to see him on his natural position, good move by the coach..

  3. Terra just lack attacking threat a good RB should have cutting to the box and making deadly cross, he is very poor doing both. I think he plays with fear of making mistakes.

Calabria really need to get back to his best… I miss him

  4. Fonseca seems determined to alienate and undermine the players who provided a foundation for Milan’s success over the last 4 years.

If Conte had come to Milan I’d be surprised if he’d have undermined the club captain in this manner. Every top manager builds a team around a core, a base.

Mourinho built his Chelsea team around Terry and Lampard, and Conte and Allegri the Juve teams around the BBC.

It’s absolutely bizarre that Fonseca would alienate our core, instead of building on it.

  5. Fonseca is probably close to losing his job. Might as well throw the dice and see what happens. Calabria isn’t good anymore and Emerson was never any good. Should start Leao though.

    1. Stop and think about how ridiculous it is to be saying a 27 year old is not good enough anymore.

      27.

We used to play a 41 year old, right footed Costacurta at LB.

It really shows how people just jump on bandwagons. It’s noticeable how the same views are trending on so many issues.

Given 90% of the posts just repeat the same narrative how come you guys all work it out between you and just post once?

      1. Just reporting what I’m seeing on the pitch. Don’t care about his age. He hasn’t played well for awhile. I do think he’s still better than Emerson though.
