Footmercato: Man Utd, Chelsea and PSG on alert but Milan star is ‘happy’ in Italy

By Oliver Fisher -

Mike Maignan’s future has been the subject of media speculation in recent weeks, and now an update on his situation has arrived from France.

Having been signed by Milan during the summer of 2021, Maignan did not take long to make himself one of the key players in the side under Stefano Pioli, both with on-field performances and leadership.

With 17 clean sheets and only 19 goals conceded in 32 Serie A matches, he was one of the great architects of the Rossoneri’s title win in 2021-22, and he has also become France’s No.1 too.

According to the latest from Santi Aouna of Footmercato, Milan are still in talks over a new contract with Maignan, given that his current deal expires in June 2026 and the management want to be proactive.

The journalist states that the Frenchman is ‘happy’ in Italy, suggesting that forcing an exit is far from his mind given his importance at Milan.

However, Chelsea, Manchester United, PSG and other top clubs remain attentive to the situation of Maignan and may look to strike if the contract talks break down.

Maignan has certainly earned AC Milan more points than he has cost them since his arrival from Lille, but his underlying numbers this season are perhaps a tad on the worrying side.

  1. I don’t see us renewing Maignan and Theo at the Leao salary (7 million) especially without the tax benefits (if we wanted to renew it would have been done before January when the tax benefits expired). Heck, depending on who’s the coach is at the end of the season (Conte ?), we might sell even Leao, and unload Giroud.

Have a feeling this will be another rebuilding year…
