FootMercato: Milan not certain of being able to keep Leao as Man City open talks

By Oliver Fisher -

AC Milan are no longer certain about being able to keep Rafael Leao as he is attracting interest from several clubs, according to a report.

According to journalist Santi Aouna of Footmercato, the Rossoneri are not sure that they will be able to keep Leao beyond the summer despite the fact there is a contract offer on the table.

Several clubs are interested in the Portuguese winger including Manchester City, who started discussions a few weeks ago with his agent Jorge Mendes.

In 42 appearances across all competitions, the former Lille man amassed 14 goals and 12 assists, so it is no surprise that he attracting the attention of the strongest clubs in Europe.

His current contract will expire in June 2024, so Paolo Maldini and Ricky Massara want to bolster the squad by locking down the key pillars ahead of an attempt to go deeper in the Champions League and renewals like Leao are key to cement a strong dressing room.

  1. Would seem a weird move if they have Foden and Sterling there on the left flank but stranger things have happened. Footmercato being an accurate source would count as a ‘stranger thing’.

  2. Not true, lies. We already have Sterling who will definitely be signing a new deal after the internationals, Foden who is going nowhere and new Striker signing Alvarez who can also play there. Media lying as usual and linking us with everyone accept the signings we actually need. A Defensive Mid and a Leftback.

    1. Real doesn’t need him either as they have Vinny Jr, and PSG has kept Mpappe, so who else would have the funds to meet the release clause?

  3. It would look really bad if new owners came in and sold their biggest player. I doubt it but if it’s true they better come up with something better

  4. Fans need to stay calm.
Leao agent is Jorge Mendes, one of the best, who is using the media to fabricate interest from other clubs in Leao so he can put pressure on Milan to give more money in the negotiation for a new contract..

  5. Same sensational news ad nausium. He is a great player in a great team. They blend together.Lukaku went to Chelsea for a better payrol so did Donnarumma and Messi and many others. Are they satisfied with their moves?

  6. Even if a club is so crazy to spend 150 mil to activate his release clause im really not convinced we would come out much weaker at least if the money is reinvested wisely. Dont get me wrong id prefer us to keep leao as he is an immensely talented player but getting 150 mil for a player not even reached his peak yet would put us in a position where we might be able to buy nunez 80 mil + de ketelaere 40-45 mil + lang 20-25 mil and that even before starting to use maybe 100 mil transfer kit on top of that. In my view it would seem like a leap in quality that even keeping leao wouldnt offer the same at least short term speaking.
Im not really worried in how this pans out from a technical point as we would be well equippped to move onwards with other players arriving. When that is said leao has great room to keep developing and he will soon be a top 5 player in the world and selling him now would be a shame nevertheless. but i seriously doubt that any club would activate his release clause currently.

  7. This is a crock of sh*t story. If you read the actual tweet but the journalist, he says Man City started talks with Mendes aka Leaos agent.

Now, for those that are new to mercato or have been living under a rock and are not familiar with how so called “Super Agents” operate (one of them being late Mino and of course Mendes himself, they leak stories through “friendly” mendia, then media they straight out paid off and all those following transfers that are now hungry for the next big story and feed them sh*t sandwiches like these. Why? So they can get most out of their clients and their respective clubs.

If they create an illusion a big club wants their client just as they are about to sign an extension, they can maybe get a few million extra for their client and a few million sign on fee extra for themselves for service of fending off imaginary big bad clubs interested in their clients and making sure deal happens.

It is a disgusting tactic, by people what shouldn’t even be considered as humans. They are vermin and UEFA/FIFA will have to get on top of this sooner rather than later because it is getting out of hand. Maybe something like NFL or NBA have.

Long story short. Leao, unless he actually decides he wants to leave and sit on a bench in Real or Man City or PSG, aint going anywhere.

  8. Im not worried due to the buy out clause.
If they pay €150mil then take him. And we can buy 2-3 players.. If not…
He will ride with us next season.

  9. Anything above 120+mil (worth of 3 good players) could be a good deal, considering his contract expires in 2 years. He’s a great player, but still too young to know if he will fulfill the potential

If we can get Nunez + Asensio + Richarlison (and maybe Isco who’s gonna be free) with that money I’m fine 😀
