Former coach reveals what Milan can expect from Vasquez: “Perfect for Italy”

By Isak Möller -

Earlier this week, AC Milan announced the signing of the goalkeeper Devis Vasquez, who arrived out of nowhere. The Colombian’s former goalkeeping coach has now revealed what the Rossoneri can expect.

Over the last few weeks, Milan have been linked with several goalkeepers but prior to his arrival (more or less), Vasquez hadn’t even been mentioned once. The signing came as a big surprise to everyone, in other words.

Milan paid €470k for his services and speaking to Tuttosport, Vasquez’s now former goalkeeping coach Augusto Ayala at Guarani has revealed what the Rossoneri can expect. He stated that the 24-year-old is perfect for Italy.

“He’s a boy with brilliant prospects. A perfect goalkeeper for Italy, given the style of play in Serie A.

“Our [Guarani’s] style of play expects the goalkeeper to be an extra outfield player, to know how to use his feet and have technical skills in controlling the ball. He’s reactive, quick, flexible, determined and very strong between the sticks.

“Can he become one of the best goalkeepers in the world? Absolutely yes,” he concluded as cited by MilanNews.

It remains to be seen what role Vasquez will have this season. Antonio Mirante and Ciprian Tatarusanu are still ahead in the pecking order but that might change soon. In any case, it’s a very interesting signing by Milan (led by Ricky Massara).
