France Football: Midfielder snubbed advances of PSG in order to seal immediate Milan exit

Lucas Paqueta was not interested in waiting for Paris Saint-Germain and instead chose to join Lyon, according to a report.

One of Milan’s biggest signings in recent years was Paqueta from Brazilian side Flamengo for €35million, while one of the most important sales of the Paolo Maldini and Elliott Management era was his departure to Lyon for €20m.

The player is earning good reports at his new club even if he is still very far from fully expressing his evident talent, which feels a lot like the start he had at San Siro under Gennaro Gattuso.

Interviewed by France Football (via MilanLive), the Brazilian’s mother has revealed that Paqueta received a phone call from Leonardo – the technical director of Paris Saint-Germain – before Lyon reached out. He was of course at Milan when they signed the attacking midfielder from Flamengo, and wanted to reunite with him.

However, Leonardo asked the player to wait another six months, and then in January 2021 proceed to join PSG. It was a sharp no from the player, who did not want to know as he wanted to leave Milan immediately, without waiting any longer.

For this reason, he accepted the offer from Lyon, who instead wanted him right away and that made everyone happy.
