Club legend Franco Baresi believes that AC Milan can overturn their status as underdogs for Sunday’s Derby della Madonnina and beat Inter.
The Rossoneri will be looking to secure their first league win over Inter in four years and put a huge dent in the Scudetto hopes of their neighbours, who have struggled for form since the turn of the year.
Milan, on the other hand, have had an upturn which has essentially coincided with the arrival of Zlatan Ibrahimovic at the beginning of January, having not lost a competitive game yet in 2020.
However, the 19 points gap between the two teams is a daunting one, and with Inter being the ‘home’ team many are tipping them as favourites.
Baresi shared his thoughts on the big game during an interview with il Corriere della Sera, and his words were transcribed by Calciomercato.com.
“The derby is a unique game, seen all over the world. Now in the era of social and pay TV it is a crazy media event, where every detail is amplified,” he said.
“When I started it was not like that: only the chosen few who filled San Siro could fully enjoy the show.
“Inter the favourites? Many times it has gone against the predictions, the gap in certain games does not count. Milan are healthy. The team has become more aware and convinced of their means. After all, the results are damaging, the team is recovering.
“Milan have everything to create problems for Conte. With his charisma Ibra conveys positivity. We have had an easy calendar recently and we have it exploited, winning matches that maybe two months ago would have been lost.”
