From Spain: Milan leading the race for Barcelona full-back after agreeing to pay a fee

By Oliver Fisher -

AC Milan appear to be best place to secure the signing of Junior Firpo from Barcelona but will not be able to agree a loan deal, according to a report.

Mundo Deportivo writes that the LaLiga club needs to raise cash and will only consider an outright sale of Firpo, with interest from West Ham and Southampton in England as well as Napoli and Fiorentina in Italy.

Italy seem the most feasible destination and Milan are the best positioned because he was close to signing there in January and the Rossoneri can offer Champions League football. Paolo Maldini hopes to convince him having held back in the winter when Firpo had just become a father.

Firpo’s agent is Sufiel Abdelkader – the father of Brahim Díaz who also hopes to return to Milan – and there is a very good relationship which could favour Milan. Fiorentina meanwhile have also contacted both the Barcelona and with the entourage of the player, although there is no offer yet. The report adds that Milan are now willing to pay a fee for the player.
