This morning’s newspapers in Italy have reacted to the big news of the last 48 hours, namely the sacking of Paulo Fonseca and hiring of Sergio Conceicao.
Milan went into their final game of 2024 – a 1-1 draw against Roma – with Fonseca in charge, but will go into 2025 with a new manager.
The Portuguese was sacked and replaced very quickly by his compatriot, who flew into Italy yesterday morning and took his first training session at Milanello in the afternoon.
Today’s front pages
Rather unsurprisingly, the Italian media have given a lot of space on the front pages of the newspapers to the news.
La Gazzetta dello Sport: “Conceicao changes everything. The new Milan coach signs until 2026. ‘This is how I’ll bring the Diavolo back to the top’. Chosen by the club because he’s a tough coach. He is banking on Leao, Theo and Loftus-Cheek.”
Corriere dello Sport: “‘Milan, let’s believe’. Conceicao immediately takes the field: a new Rossonera era begins. He directed the first training session and encouraged the team. He will debut in the Supercoppa against his son Francisco’s Juve. Fonseca will get 8 months’ severance pay: €4m saved.”
Tuttosport: “Juve: Supercoppa then Tomori-Zirkzee. Motta seeks a prestigious turning point. The challenge with Milan warms up the Conceicao family: Sergio immediately challenges Chico and evaluates the English defender before giving the green light for a move to Juventus. Conceicao at work after the Fonseca shock: ‘Milan are a world-class team. I want us to be up to the level.”
Banking on RLC? FFS, we’re doomed…
I was shocked too see that one too.
I hope it’s a made-up story or else Milan will be doomed.
It’s most likely bs mate. Truth is RLC will likely be seeing more minutes but probably not as a starter, unless they can get him to focus and help out and not just stand there. It also depends on which formation Conceicao wants to use, but if he goes with his usual 442/4231 I doubt he’ll be starting games anytime soon. Only way he starts right now is in a 433 I’d say. Whichever way it goes, Fofana and Reijnders are still the go-to guys there.
The man has not had his first match and yet you have already doomed the team.
Do prefer he condemn the players before he plays his very first match.
RLC is not a bad player he just needs the right mindset and motivation.
You better encourage our team and stop tearing them with your words every chance u get
Don’t mind them, I wonder how some people reason. They’ll always look for one loophole or excuse in this team. Can’t please fans on this platform.
“The man has not had his first match and yet you have already doomed the team.”
You don’t need to be a fortune teller to know that players such as RLC and Emerson Royal won’t suddenly turn into world-class players just because the coach changed. You do know the saying about sh1te and gold, now do you? Just a hint, it’s not fiction.
Theo, tomori,RLC,calabria, morota, musa are all useless players and should be sold.Even leao if not the way fonseca handled him,he would also be a useless player. That is the revolution fonseca is trying to do but the management don’t want to have patient for him.Milan still has a long way to go.It’s a pity.Lets believe this coach will do better.
Theo and Tomori are useless? lmao…
