Matteo Gabbia of AC Milan

MN: Gabbia agrees renewal with Milan – the details including salary and duration

AC Milan will be able to call upon Matteo Gabbia for the game against Juventus tomorrow night, and in the meantime a renewal is very close.

According to MilanNews, Milan and Gabbia will ‘move forward together’. In recent days, the Rossoneri management and the player’s entourage have reached an agreement in principle for the contract renewal of the defender.

It is a new deal that wanted by both parties and that will see Gabbia tie his future to his boyhood club until 2029, as reported by Relevo’s Matteo Moretto yesterday too.

The Italy international will earn a salary that will be around €2m net per season, bonuses included. It is important recognition for Gabbia, who has grown a lot since the start of the year when he returned from his loan at Villarreal.

Gabbia has recovered from the problem with his right calf suffered at the end of October that forced him to miss, among other things, the match against Real Madrid in the Champions League.

Tomorrow he should return to the starting line-up against Juventus with one of Malick Thiaw or Fikayo Tomori at his side. After being the derby hero against Inter, he will look to write more pages in his Milan story.

  1. Good news. According to the stats Tomori-Gabbia is the best CB pairing, but I’d like to see Gabbia paired up with Thiaw some more. I think the sample size is too small and thus it’s skewed by a bad performance where the two were paired together. Thiaw has been error free in his last few games and maybe he’s beginning to figure it out. If he can take the next step up in quality, a Thiaw-Gabbia partnership could be cemented as the first choice.
