CM: Gabbia plan and two signings – how Milan’s CB department should look in 2022-23

By Oliver Fisher -

AC Milan have a plan in mind for how they want their centre-back department to look heading into next season, according to a report.

According to Calciomercato.com journalist Daniele Longo on Twitter, the current idea of the management is to send Matteo Gabbia out on loan for one season to help him get some playing time to assist his development, given he is 22 years of age.

Therefore, next season’s centre-back options should be as follows barring any surprises: Fikayo Tomori, Sven Botman (currently of Lille), Pierre Kalulu, Simon Kjaer and a young defender who will be signed from the market.

In a tweet below, he confirms that the Rossoneri like Malick Thiaw ‘a lot’ but Schalke have a high asking price, so we must see at the end of the season how that situation develops. The profile of Thiaw is the identikit of what Paolo Maldini and Ricky Massara want though: young but with good experience already under his belt.
