Adriano Galliani has revealed that he had the chance to bring Paul Pogba to AC Milan when he was the CEO but he decided against the move.
Interviewed by Tuttosport, Galliani – the managing director of Monza – talked about the upcoming Serie A season which will see the Lombardy club back in the top flight. It will be a strange experience for both him and Monza owner Silvio Berlusconi as they will face Milan as an opponent for the first time.
Speaking first of all about Berlusconi, Galliani admitted that the president has other things on his mind currently while also revealing that his love for the Rossoneri has not gone away.
“Right now he’s only thinking about the elections and Monza, but I don’t know if in this order because he became super-savvy at Monza. He always loves Milan, but now Monza has entered his heart,” he said (via SempreMilan.it).
Given the amount of signings Monza have made and the fact they are back in Serie A after a long absence, there is no general consensus on whether they are relegation candidates or could push for the top half, but Galliani has set a target.
“Tenth place. I know it’s difficult, but having been an entrepreneur in my life, I know that we need to set goals,” he said.
Galliani commented on Pogba’s return to Juventus, and revealed some interesting market background involving Milan.
“Does it remind me of Kakà’s return to Milan? In some ways, yes, something romantic or, more than anything else, a return to an environment where he was happy. Ah, what a regret Pogba: I did not want to pay an insane commission to my friend Mino and so he went to Juventus.”
