Gasperini and Miranchuk look ahead to Milan-Atalanta Coppa Italia meeting

By Ben Dixon -

Following Atalanta’s 3-1 victory, head coach Gian Piero Gasperini and Aleksei Miranchuk about what they can expect from AC Milan in the Coppa Italia quarter-final.

With the Rossoneri’s fixture against Cagliari being held a day before Atalanta’s game against Sassuolo, it meant that Gasperini’s side entered the fixture already knowing who awaited them. A brace from Charles de Ketelaere put the Nerazzurri in good stead for a result, but Miranchuk’s goal effectively confirmed their entry into the final eight.

It will be the second time the two sides have faced off this season. Following La Dea’s 3-2 victory on December 9, Stefano Pioli will be instructing his side to seek revenge, with the bonus of a Coppa Italia semi-final place at stake.

Confidence will be high after the Diavolo’s dismantling of Cagliari with a rotated, youthful side, and there will be an expectation for Milan to deliver, with hopes for other silverware slim. Additionally, with the fixture taking place at the San Siro, Milan arguably have the upper hand.

However, before the game, both teams will play in Serie A. The Rossoneri have a trip to Empoli, whereas Gasperini’s side will face Roma at the Stadio Olimpico.

Gian Piero Gasperini spoke to Sky Sport after the fixture, and MilanNews relayed his words.

“We did well, and I am happy. There are many young lads who must play and have even more experience and awareness. Milan? It will be a good match, dry and with two teams that will want to win, we are ready, even if first there is Roma.”

Aleksei Miranchuk also spoke to Sky Sport, and his words were also relayed by MilanNews.

“We are doing well, and I am happy with the goals and minutes. We are strong. Against AC Milan, it won’t be easy. We have Roma first, and we also think about them, then against the Rossoneri we will see, but we are in a good moment, I am confident.”

  1. Let’s hope it’s a better showing than our last meeting. Hopefully Pioli learns from mistakes and properly motivates the team.
