Gattuso compares Milan target Musah to Kessie: “A great buy”

By Oliver Fisher -

Gennaro Gattuso has suggested that Yunus Musah could fill the void left by Franck Kessie if AC Milan were to sign him from Valencia.

Milan have been linked with a move for Musah by a number of different sources over the past week or so, with the management looking at various options to rebuild the midfield given that Sandro Tonali’s exit is imminent.

Gattuso knows the USA international well having been in charge at Valencia for 22 games, so Corriere dello Sport spoke to him about Musah and what he could bring to another of his former sides in the Rossoneri.

“He reminds me of the Franck Kessie of before. First of all, he is a good boy, then he has great strength in his legs. My advice is this: you have to wait for him. I consider him a great buy,” he said (via TMW).

Musah has become a mainstay of a Valencia side that have struggled over the past couple of seasons. In 2022-23, he made 37 appearances across all competitions and registered two assists in 2358 minutes.

  1. Nope. Biased opinion. Love Rino but this will be a hard flop. All Valencia fans are super happy about this sale and musah has nowhere near kessies size and strength. Literally nowhere near.

    1. My knowledge of musah is a bit limíted but you kinda make it sound like he is very small and kessie being a really tall player when musah is 1.78 and kessie 1.83 which isnt that huge a difference, Besides of that gattuso also compared him to kessie of the past and implied that we would have to have some patience for his development,
Either way no idea if he will be a good buy i tend to think all those americans potentially arriving is a marketing ploy.

        1. 5 centimetres or 2 inches isnt really that much but sure kessie might have more weight on his body but as gattuso said “My advice is this: you have to wait for him” which indicates that he is a player that should further develope and we should be patient with him. He could have weight added, look at how much leao build up his muscles since joining us.
Either way i cant really say im excited by that move but atleast he wouldnt count as a non eu player as he grew up in italy.

    2. I’m sure you are better scout than Gattuso… I mean, what does Gattuso know about being a professiona midfielder. Unlike you for example. 😀 😀 😀 😀 😀

  2. Rino trained both Kessie and Musah, so he’d know. They also say Musah played his best football under Rino, cause he understood his role and position. Fact is we miss Kessie and we need proper replacement. If that’s Musah, time will tell but peraonally I’d like to see someone experienced in the league eg. Amrabat.

    1. Agree re: Amrabat. I’ve only watched Musah at latest World Cup and I was impressed. Likes getting stuck in on a challenge is quick so he’s not often late like Pobega. Very strong and fast. I think he leaves a lot to be desired offensively, but at 20 I’d think he’ll improve. I like him.

  3. Musah can be an absolute star if he is put in the proper setup. He bosses England midfielders at the World Cup and he is so good with the ball at his feet. Very underrated defensively too. I would pay 20 for him on potential alone.
