Gattuso wanted AC Milan to sign Ribery, claims former footballer

At the end of last season, AC Milan decided to sack Gennaro Gattuso as they didn’t see eye to eye on the future plans. Instead, they appointed Marco Giampaolo who was sacked after just seven games in charge, replaced by Stefani Pioli.

In an interview with TuttoMercatoWeb Radio (via MilanNews.it), the former footballer Massimo Brambiti criticised the Rossoneri for sacking Gattuso in the first place, revealing a few details about the manager’s requests.

“It would have been better to go with Gattuso. In a meeting with the management, he asked for three experienced players, one of which was Ribery. However, Gattuso was rejected, just like all of his proposals,” Brambiti stated.

The French winger ended up at Fiorentina instead and has been a huge success for La Viola. Ironically, he was crucial against Milan and even got himself on the scoresheet, which must have hurt for the Rossoneri management.

In any case, Pioli is now the man in charge and hopefully, he can turn things around. His first game will take place on Sunday, as Lecce will pay a visit to the San Siro. Three points are a must, as anything else would be a disaster.
